This is insane - but who so we write to?
https://www.watoday.com.au/national/they-know-they-can-t-get-busted-charter-vessels-left-to-protect-themselves-from-foreign-fishers-20211020-p591kq.html
The story is so crazy, I feel as though I must be missing something?

Yep, been keeping an eye on
Yep, been keeping an eye on the news coming from the charters up that way - fisheries are pathetic as indo's blatantly plunder fish stocks and walk the reef's, not to mention the intimidation.

It's been going on for years, when ever I'd do a rig visit to the rig I managed drilling next to Scott reef you could see the Indo boats all the time.

I used to know pro fisherman
I used to know pro fisherman years ago that would have a bit to do with them and let a few bullets fly over there heads on certain boats if they had knocked any of there gear off.

From what I know Johnny is
From what I know Johnny is that covid is to blame with no real plan in place with how to deal with the Indo's that potentially have covid and how to deal with it, so the best policy by our govt, border patrol and fisheries is not to acknowledge the situation let alone deter them.

For next year ( bali) no way . I have that must credit due to flights / cruises ect cancelled, Wants to start using it . If there worried about approaching vessels due to COVID. Could only imagine what it’s like over there . Few more years yet I would think

Few docos online regarding
Few docos online regarding how corrupt these indo fishing boats are. Fishers are pretty much slaves and the captain is usually a ruthless prick using the crew as collateral. Was watching one the other day, the fishing in protected waters is only part of the issue.

That's the problem Russ - we
That's the problem Russ - we obviously aren't going to sink them with people on board (it's not a real war!) and we don't want to take them off because of the COVID threat. Obvious conundrum!

Having fished and dived the
Having fished and dived the Rowleys for about 6 years every oct and nov as dive master/ fishing guide /skipper
its an amazing reef , mantas, pygmy mantas, whale sharks, whales -various, massive dogtooth tune - like 100kg plus jobs
thats just on the way to a dive site ona 12 min boat ride, then u go for a dive...
1st time there - as skipper on a 24m vessel, fisheries and myself gets to the entrance to Clerke reef at the same time- the rib/plastic trying to come alongside as we are racing the tide to get in, after explaining and the mother ship telling them on ch 16 to stop the boarding - its imperative on a biggish boat -draft wise, to get the tide right there, i was in a 20 min window remaining cause of punters gettin on late in broome, and its a long steam over and was going as hard we could in some weather, the rib still insisted on trying to board is -IN THE CHANNEL
every time ive been there - about 22 trips they boarded us, most time fairly abrubt and not friendly at all, going thru the boat as if we are hiding perth mint swindle gold, some of the customers from interstate -ahh the days before covid - actually complaining to them, 1 time stopping 10 divers from leaving on the tender to go for a dive - they all kitted up, eventually after 35 min they were allowed to go.
On 1 trip we pulled out 50 m of gillnet stuck on the reef, about 25 hr underwater by passengers who wanted to do it as they couldnt believe the pristine rest of the place -which fisheries to their credit, took of us and stored it on their boat for disposal back on mainland.
once every 2 to 3 days we had a fly over from border force plane, often getting a radio call
all this i have documented in a ships official logbook. Im willing to show this to Adam to substantiate these comments.
so what happened to the 3 shots in front of the bow and the loudhailer "pergilah" f off"
there are multi agency commitment here and I reckon each will blame the other in a typical "no one is at fault here"
why is border force not patrolling/reporting
why is fisheries not boarding - and if due to covid - why arent they observing and reporting
and if citizens of this country are feeling threatened in their own waters shouldnt the navy sort it out.
How do we get these questions asked in parliament - surely someone must know

Fire hose?
They're not supposed to be there without permission, simply because its Australian territory. They're defnitely not supposed to take anything form the marine park. But as Davewillo says, the conundrum might be Covid making it hardous to board.
You can't sink them outright, but I reckon a good working over with a fire hose of two (bailers supplied in friendship if needed), to fill them up to the gunwhales, would get the point across.

So, in short..
..We know that there's a problem, it's been going on for a while, and we've no idea who to raise it with.
Shark1 covered it with:
I'll start with my local councillors & MLA.. Better suggestions welcome!
