good info. I'm still waiting
good info. I'm still waiting on some info on a tagged dhuie I caught twice at the same spot. I called in the info twice & still no correspondence.
Jody mentioned she will follow up, but still nothing to date. Almost a year.

Tagged a lot of dhies around geraldton last winter and started to catch the same fish within weeks, all seemed to stay in the same place and were in good condition, most from around 22-34m and released on weights

can't help thinking thats bad news!
once a lump is fished out , thats done!
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

But doesn't that ignore
The fact that you have small dhuies there in the first place - I can state categorically that places I regularly dived over an extended period (over a decade) and never saw a Dhuie for years up until the crayfishing pro ban on drop lining................then within the last few years we are seeing small to medium dhuies everywhere even on shallow metro reefs
Never seen any tiny dhuies and that accords with what is known or rather not known by the scientists - just where they grow out from fry to sort of hand sized - any other divers ever seen really small dhuies ???
I am sure that many on this site will confirm the increasing number of small dhuies they are catching of recent (stressing recent) years - the fishery is indeed recovering and, add to this the plague proportions of small snapper and things are looking up for the future of the fishery HOWEVER the same cannot be said for very slow growing species in particular breaksea cod .......see plenty of small to tiny ones but seldom see large breeders - there are places in deeper water, particularly out of Mandurah, where we catch specimen breaksea but all in water generally too deep for regular diving other than on nitrox.
That's my take on the state of play but others may disagree

Mate that is one fish they
Mate that is one fish they move on .I fish some spots and only get the odd fish every now and then .Then bang the fish turn up in numbers for a day a week and then gone not a thing .Its not because they all got caught they just moved to the next spot .you would be surprized how many boats fish my spots .And catch very little. Its right place right time .TIMING IS EVERYTHING Fish will be in 80m one trip and 50m the next then fish will be 30m 5 mile out .they move over large areas.im not saying all dhuies move but most do.And I would say that goes for most species of fish

In September / October regularly
Catch dhuies in 5-6 metres of water in a spot some ways north of Perth - and they are there every year but only for perhaps 3 weeks - my theory is that they come in chasing the return of the crays - I did initially think it was for spawning but none caught evidenced that. Great fun free lining / driftingin such shallow water and the fight is something else - yup I agree they move around a lot
