Inshore bottom bashn baits

Would anybody on here care to share there favourite bait for inshore bottom bashing, for things like snapper, KGW and mainly dhufish. are the usual baits like pillies and squid the go or is there a rare (WA only) bait going around that I will brain it on?

bashin baits

pillies and squid are prob top two baits but fresh is best so if you get some small whiting, wrasse, skippy etc then throw one over as a livie.

I suppose you are not familiar with sambo's (samson fish)yet? . good thing about bunno is the lack of decent structure so you can go light and still getem in......don't eat them though mate.

the new occy jigs are working well and have caught snapper on SP myself

most guys this end anchor and burley or drift.

just gota find the fish this end of town.

If ya need some pointers with the GPS feel free to PM me

cheers

Catch yer own freshies as

Catch yer own freshies as Damo suggested. Got a thumper KG this morn on snelled and DB'd herring fillet. I can asl attest that wrasse make a top bait as they have been known to frequent my catch list on an all to regular basis ;-)

Oh yeah and poddy whiting/sandies piss easy to catch (great to eat) but also great bait.

Cheers,

Pilllies???

Sun, 2009-01-11 17:26

Pillies,no pillies over here mulies, yes pillies noOne of the best baits is fresh mullet,if its been frozen it loses its skin too easily. If you have to freeze it,fillet itand layer it with coarse/butchers salt. This dries it out but leaves a lot of oil in it.
Sargent baker is one of the best around, fresh cuttlefish is up there as wellIf you get a small live parrotfish, just drop him straight back down again, even if its 30cm long a dhuey is going to have it that far down its neck you will need to pull the hooks out through it bum

For a fishing spot in close, near where the ships anchor.Take a line on the last[outer]concrete section of the breakwater and you shoild run over some ground 3-4 mile out

Dont ask for pillies

you'll get looked at funny. Ask for mulies.

And apart from catching your own baits like squaid and herring, octopus also works well.

Apart from the above

If by chance you catch a big cuttlefish, they make the "best" baits, cut into strips and fished on snelled hooks.
Just have to get past the messy cleaning stage first.Wink

have to agree there Andy, cuttlefish make great bait

Andy if you cut down one side off the cuttlefish ( got deep ) and remove the ink sack that stops all the mess

Tackle Shop

Sun, 2009-01-11 22:27

Tackle Shop will have them Eddie.

They work great on the Cuttlys and Squid. Just tow them for a short while then head them and turn them inside out and another short tow and you wont have to clean them anymore.

Thanks for the replies. Thats food for thought. I meant to say mullies, but I guess 30 odd years of pillies just sort of flowed out. Gotta get out. Goin mental. AAAAAAHHHHHHHH.

Scaly mackerel

Mon, 2009-01-12 17:58

Scaly macks are awesome inshore baits for pinkies, definately take a few along if you want to drift bait as they are extremely oily and things come for miles to eat them.
