Inshore Saltwater Fly Fishing

Hey,
Another boring day at school and saw the wind is gonna be down on Sunday so thought I might give the fly rod a go for the first time in Perth. I have fly fished before, have an OK cast (nothing flash), and have a few good herring spots that produce regularly just out from Hillarys. Just wondering if these would be my best shot at getting into a few fish or are there other options relatively close to shore? Would like to launch from Hillarys if possible as I live close, have a small 4.6m half cabin (not exactly ideal for fly fishing I know but I can make a plan). Have a few old saltwater flies and a 6/7wt I could give a go.
Cheers
Hutch

You sound like you have a plan
and I would stick with it. Just berley up.
My favourite SW fly spot for Herring and the odd tailor is under the new Mandurah bypass Bridge (not so new but we call it that). South side and boat or landbased. Always get a feed there. 6/7wt OK but I use a 5wt. Just more fun with the wand. Having said that havent been for AGES!!
Might have to correct that.

Thanks, havent been FF for a while, but keen to get back into it. When I get a new combo I'll definitely look at the lighter models.

Me too
Used to fish with the wand regularly in Mandurah. Last 6 yrs up in Karratha and used the fly, but not traditional "waving the wand". Just drift the fly down current and strip back. Back now almost a year and yet to go back to it.
