Submitted by Steve Cooper on Thu, 2014-03-20 19:15
I will be In Broome at the end of August, 2014. I am keen to do a few days flyfishing. Is there any information about guides or locals who would like some company flyfishing the flats. Cheers, Steve

Hey Steve, not easy to flats
Hey Steve, not easy to flats fish the Broome area due to the big tides. When you consider the tides moves up to 9m in 6 hours, you don't have long in your fav location and the neap tides don't seem to have the same activity as the springs. One of the 6 hours not much happens so when it starts moving ..it really hammers.
What are you hoping to catch ? What tides will be on when you are there ? Can give you some tips if u give me more info

If you wade around the flats
If you wade around the flats on low tide around Willie and Barred creek you will see lots of fish including Permit, but good luck trying to get into position for a cast !!! You will find the water will be dirty with mud coming out of the Roebuck Bay Creeks. The Creeks North of town are sandy so stay cleaner even on the spring tides. Too cold for Barra in August usually but plenty of Queenies and Small Trevs etc !
