Installing 2nd Sounder advice

G'Day All!,

I'm hoping for some advice on installing a second sounder on my boat. Long story short, I have a Dragonfly 7 as main unit at present mounted right side, and on the left of the dash, an old Navman Tracker, which has popped it's clogs.

I fell for the 20% discount trap at BCF on the weekend and grabbed a Lowrance Elite 7 TI, with the Totalscan Transducer, which I would like to mount in place of the Navman.

I have searched old threads here and elsewhere on issues with mounting 2 transducers on a transom, and it seems it can be done, but a bit tricky, with high risk of interference. Attached is a photo of the setup as it is now, obviously the boarding ladder will be problematic, but what are people's thoughts of mounting the Totalscan Transducer immediately to the right of it? I would then send the wiring up the left side of the boat and up into the console.

Is this going to work, or should I forget about using the Lowrance as a sounder and have it as a dedicated chart unit?

Any and all advice very much appreciated!

Looks like penty of room on

Looks like plenty of room    on the right to me. Between the existing transducer and the keel line (righ above the "T" on your number plate.

Another photo taken from lower down parallel to the ground would give us a better idea of whether you may have any other strakes running down the length of the hull but stopping short of the transom as that will cause more intereference (air bubbles) than two transudcers running different frequencies.

Have u thought about a in-hull set up ? i use P79 transducer with Lowrance HDS 7, works fine. No external cables air bubbles etc to worry about.

manual

I just installed a totalscan transducer a few months back. I think in the manual in installation it mentions how to set up with a transducer from another unit. I moved my old transducer to a wetbox as i didnt have much room on the transom. If you want to get the most out of the sidescan the further from the outboard leg the better [my left image picks up interference from the leg] , but the catch is if your mounting both on the transom the standard transducer should be mounted on the outside higher up the deadrise so it doesnt interfere with the side image with the bubble trail from the skimmer. A bit of a balancing act... so i just went with a wet box.

Mounted my LSS2 under the

Mounted my LSS2 under the hull on the Keel line due to having flat section in front of the Bung and no keel rollers like yourself. Works great with no interference or shadows cast from outboard leg.
Also mounted my fathers the same with no issues and No shadows and clear normal sonar aswell.
the Last 2 we have for friends we mounted on the planning strake at the rear like you have just to the right of your number plate with great results as its a level surface. This was due to no level area on the keel line (Both Trophy's). This maybe a good area for you as no need to move any transducers and easy to change Side scan Left/Rights view in the settings on the Ti. Just double check where rollers may cause contact.
Mounting on the stern may lead to poor left hand vis due to prop shadow on the Side Scan.

I'm very grateful for the advice and suggestions, pics attached to show area bleicester talks about.

How's the sensitivity on the shoot through transducers? Considering the location of the existing transducer, where would be the best place to mount it? Also, I assume the P79 wouldn't be able to run the Structure and Side Scan?

With regard ROCKPOM's suggestion to mount the Transducer flat on the hull, I thought of that, but was unsure if it would work, this Totalscan transducer is slightly different, and would I have to in effect mount it backwards? As per the photo, there is a nice flat section there where it would work though...

I looked up wet box mounting, that looks a bit beyond my capabilities hahaha.

Cowboy we have mounted under

Cowboy we have mounted under the boats with no issues and you will have to mount it backwards but as mentioned it can be changed in the settings. We have found it always good to leave the Transducer cable trailing from the rear even when using the mount bracket otherwise vapour bubbles gather on the Upstream side around the cable leading to noise.
Backwards mounting keeps side scan pics clearer at higher than normal speeds for it with no effect to the combined transducers on the Ti.

Keel roller looks like a possible issue. But the Chine may be a good spot.

sensitivity seems to be ok

im still exploring and learning with the setup cant speak for structure scan or side scan as my HDS is early gen version. Here's a link to the installation guide. Only a suggestion and may not be suited to what your after.
