Interference on VHF from the fish finder

I have recently gotten a VHF radio and I am getting a lot of interference from the fish finder(lowrance elite 7). The cables originally all went through the dash through the same spot, but thought I would try remove them to see if it fixed the problem and it doesn't. Have tried removing the power only and the antenna only and both with no change.

even if the radio is on the opposite side of boat still get it, I have also noticed that it is only when the antenna is plugged in that I get the interference.

when the sounder is off I get good two way comms at a good distance but as soon as it is turned on alof of interference and can't receive anything, not even sure if it goes out.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions to fix this?

Cheers

Leigh

I would be looking at making sure the power supply wire for the 2 way and your lead from your transducer are run completely separately. To me it sounds as if you are getting interference from or into the transducer cable more than anything.

transducer cables are shielded pretty good nowadays. as per scano I'd be checking the wiring side - haven't taken the power for the radio off the tranny power wire by chance.

You say only when the antenna is plugged in - radio or gps??

I meant the antenna for the radio, sorry.

The power leads originally went close to the transducer cables, but I did try  directing them down and away from them. The power leads for both run from connector strips, but the sounder is also connected to a fused switch panel.

How are the two units wired , do both get their power supply from the dash or straight from battery , VHF draws lots of power as do sounders so need to look at this

The radio draws nearly bugger all power until you hit the transmit button
