Jig Hooks

g'day all, had a bit of fun catching herring on flick baits but wasn't happy with jig hooks I had bought and was using. The SP's were squidgy flick baits, 70mm. The herring were going nuts over them but the SP was getting damaged when I was pulling it up onto the grub to secure the bait and the fish were hitting it pretty hard so I was only getting maybe 2 casts from each bait. Is there another type of jig hook that will be a little bit lass damaging on the SP when I pull it up? I figure if the bait is secured a bit better, then the bait should last a bit longer.

 Herrings love flickbaits and

Herrings love flickbaits and I had great sesh with flickbait before but like you said, the softie falls apart after a few fish.

I reckon the problem lies with the softie - flick bait. It does have a nice baitfish darting action but it is way too narrow to use normal jigheads with extra bit of lead(bait holder) for grabbing on to the soft plastic. It often bulges up or teasr after I push it against the lead.

Either find one with a wire bait-holder or one with lead thread which is skinnier.

The squidy ones with round lead plus a piece of wire sticking out will do the trick I reckon.

I use the squidgy round head jig heads

Helps but the plastic still tears pretty easily.

With herring I'd just use a zman - will hold up all day on the hezza's.
