For jigging
I use Owner Cultivas
I also have a pair of Aftco shortpumps, but I dont think they are as well suited to jigging/popping as the Cultivas.

There are some notably
There are some notably crappy ones on the market and I really can't say a good word about the Owner C'ultiva gloves. They'll only last you one good trip and I can almost guarantee they will be falling apart.
Alot of the experienced popping guys are using the Fisherman gloves which are truely superb. Been using mine now for over 12 months, done 2 major live-aboard trips and they're still quite usable.
Also heard good things about the Smith gloves and Zenaq gloves but I haven't used them personally so I can't comment.

Yep as Huggy said you can
Yep as Huggy said you can get them from Plat for about $75 AU + postage.
Plat have exceptional service and they usually ship it as soon as the paypal payment is received and from Japan to Karratha usually takes less than a week. Postal charge is also quite reasonable too.

hmmmm, interesting
my Cultiva gloves have lasted pretty well, but I probably dont give them the hammering you do Jay.
Seen the fishermans on Plat, 7500 yen I think or about A$100?

The Cultiva's are
The Cultiva's are good....when you get the good batch. Otherwise Ive had 2 pairs, lasted no more than 3 yrs....together!!
Ive had an awesome pair of Smiths but they disappeared on me. Now Ive got my Shouts and Fisherman. We also stock the Zest ones which are identical to the Fisherman. You'll find most of these gloves are quite short and designed to slip on and just fit to the wrist, not over your wrist.
Otherwise I suggest go for the Blue Fever gloves. They heavy duty leadering and utility gloves for big game fishing.

A question from a novice
A question from a novice jigger, do gloves realy make a difference ????
Is it a comfort thing or a grip issue ???
What about when they are wet ?????
All the top jiggers local and O/S seem to use them so there must be something in it ..
Cheers

Yep I've gone a days fishing
Yep I've gone a days fishing without my gloves when I forgot them once, and I didn't have too much trouble... but try doing that all day, every day for a week and you'll know all about it.
I'm talking about popping too, not jigging.

Gloves and Bling
Fishfish and Piston Broke you beat me to it. What's with the gloves with jiggers? Can someone answer if it's a protect the hands issue or a stylish bling / look good issue. Jigging reels certainly have bling colour issues. As a gamefishing man it's all gold.

Its mainly when you use the heavy gear that you need it. Ive done a couple of times and ended up with a couple of blisters. Ally handles not too bad, but when wet you need the gloves. I try not to get my gloves wet.
The gloves will give you extra grip on the rod grips as well.

definitely help when jigging
but for me I have a pair similar to mountain bike gloves so I can use for both activities.
If you jigg all day then they are worth the money.

I have a pair of Fisherman gloves, They're great but i hardly use em for most of the stuff i do. When i'm using heavy gear they are useful.

Gloves for Aqua
i havnt read the rest of this post but i will chuck my comment in
I had a set of cultivas, to be honest, they are crap. Didnt last very long
Have traded up to a pair of fisherman's, they are bloody awesome, much stronger and better made
I only ever wear gloves when i am popping, firstly you really need them, chucking 200grams of popper 70 - 80 meters holding on to 130 lb braid with a bare finger tip a thousand times will tear even bloody supermans finger apart, regarless of how "tough" you are
Secondly, they are bloody handy for landing fish, try "tail grab" a large GT and drag it in the boat bare handed, those scutes are like knives, again it is more about being sensible that being "tough"
Fisherman gloves are the best IMO, I wont buy anything else, and i wont have to for ages, as Jay said in his post, they outlast any other glove!

when your young you think your bullet proof. when you get older and you have your first cancer burnt off your hand you wish you had thought a bit harder.

owner gloves
got a pair of these not so long ago MarkM and id have to vote them a good thing.....they are comfy and a bit girly but have also lasted quite well - similar moneys to most gloves- $50 ish and easily bought in most capital cities.
The bonus is that when you have a pair that fall apart the local store should replace at no cost on the spot -like the first pair i had....and they did, but the replacement pair had different stitching in them - check out the thumb for matt stiching - from what i can tell the new ones are heaps better for wear -having already outlasted the first pair that went pear shaped in the first week like Jay said.

The Shout ones are good
The Shout ones are good short gloves but fairly limited in production.
We stock the Jigging Master gloves. They are made with synthetic leather on the palm side, reinforced with lambs leather between the thumb and forefinger.
