i need to most likely purcahse a PE 8 combo for the kings ...

i have been going throrugh the specs, and i have just came to the conclusion that there is one extra SS bearing in the power spells. I am most likely missing something...

any tackle gurus wanna give me the heads up with what the actuel difference is in the two reals at PE 8 size....?

or reccomend another PE 8 reel to look at?

hi mate,  been looking at the same reels ;) from what I can see ocean devil is about 115g lighter in pe8 size. Also less drag 65lb max against 80lb for powerspell. Slightly higher ratio for ocean devil as well.

Hands down the Powerspell!!

I have serviced a few Powerspells, pe4 and pe5 and the quality is excellent.

My understanding is the Powerspell uses a twin drag system where as the Ocean Devil does not. You may have to check with a JM dealer as to what exactly the pe8 Ocean Devil has. There a few other things that the Ocean Devil misses out on also, some cosmetic.

Do yourself a favour a take a look at both in the flesh, the extra $ for the Powerspell is well and truly worth it. I believe Oceanside have both in stock, definitely worth a look if your local.

A bit like comparing a Saragosa to a Stella, both excellent reels built to a price. I'd go the Powerspell every time, I have 3.

Cheers

You won't be disappointed. Those reels were made for that sort of fishing!

Check out Jigging Master at 3 kings on youtube.

Agree with the powerspell

Agree with the powerspell recommendation. Though to be honest I query the need for the PE8.

Unless you are planning to deep drop with the big 1 and 2kg jigs for the bass etc and really need the capacity, I'd go something smaller.

If there's any fish I cant stop with a PE6 JM (or even a PE5N loaded with PE6 braid) then I probably cant stop it with a PE8 either.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Thats a very good point. It will depend on the line you intend to use, or will need.

I fit 300m of 84lb pe6 onto a Powerspell pe5 reel. I'm thinking you would almost get 300m of pe8 onto the pe6. I dont think the drag is much different between the pe8 and pe6 either, the smaller reel would be much nicer to jig also.

It would be worth giving a larger JM dealer a call, I'm sure they are spooling them up regularly.

Hey boys, Have to agree with

Hey boys,

Have to agree with dan on this one, if you can't stop it with a PE6 Powerspell loaded with quality PE6 you probably won't be able to stop it with a PE8. The big difference is the line capacity between the two, are you going to be using it to deep drop ? The drag doesn't make a huge difference because you won't be maxing out either of them haha.

PE6 Powerspell

Gear Ratio - 1:4.0

Gross Weight - 600g

Capacity - PE6 (500m)

Efficient Drag - 35lbs / Max - 60lb

PE8 Powerspell

Gear Ratio - 1:4.0

Gross Weight - 710g

Capacity - PE8 (500m)

Efficient Drag - 45lb / Max - 80lb

If you can afford the powerspell go the powerspell, you won't be dissapointed.

Cheers Josh.
