Jurien Bay Trip?

Hi people

Planning a Jurien/Greenhead trip soon and just after some advice because i've got pretty little understanding about this area. I've read the best time to travel up there is around March/April/May. is this correct? Also, how do you monitor the weather there because it would be pretty pointless heading there for the weekend and its blowing its nuts off.

Possibly going with 3 mates and 3 big boats (22' glass, 26' glass, 26' abcat ) so is there a decent marina/ ramp there?

Also, is it advisable to have some sort of tarp over the bow of the boat to protect it from small rocks being thrown up?

I've read about fishing so that areas covered.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

there is a good marina in

there is a good marina in Jurien but not in Green heads. best bet go Jurien. a cover over the front of the boat wouldnt hurt but not that important. with the new coast road it should be an easy trip up , just watch for the natives if travelling at night. as far as the weather goes . there is seabreese to look at and others , just look at the forcast for the places either side . that will give you a good idea . or you can call the local tackle store and i am sure they would be more than helpful

SRF, sorry champ, but there is some pretty retarded q's there.

"how do we monitor the weather there?" you do it the same way you (and everyone else does) it, by checking weather sites. if it blows up, you do what any normal young bloke on a fishing trip would do, and put a couple of boxes of tooheys new on ice, and drink them with your mates, chace the local skirt, and play on the trampolines at te caravan park.

The boat launching facilities at green head are more than adequate for what you need. A quick google or googlemaps would show you this. You don't need a frikkin marina to launch. Some of the best fishing in WA is beach launch, and people with much bigger boats than your daddy's have no trouble.

Please go buy a new tarp to put on he front of your boat for 2 reasons. 1) to waste your money on a new tarp that will probably be destroyed after the first 200k's, and 2) to announce to everyone in town how much of a newb you are to all this. Seriously, how many tarps have you ever seen on the bow of boats ( no question mark required, as this is a rhetorical question).

End of the story is this: you're a young bloke that needs to get some experience by just finding things out for yourself. Sure these forums are good for information, but the basics need to be familiar first. You won't learn a thing until youve phucked up a few times.

Another handy hint is to "ensure brain is in gear, before engaging mouth".

As far as putting a tarp

Tue, 2012-02-14 10:52

As far as putting a tarp around the bow of your boat SRF,

There are a lot of boats that head up the Brand Hwy and Indian Ocean drive every year, and the roads are pretty good, so covering it up is unnecessary.  If you were doing a lot of gravel road driving while towing  ie Steep Point or Gnarloo then I'd cover up for sure.

Hope you do well

Jurien has good launching

Tue, 2012-02-14 10:42

Jurien has good launching facilities, and good fishing too.

Recent reports from Paul G and others have shown some mackies about and plenty of bottom fish.

Jurien town facilities are pretty good too!

No need for a Tarp as Scotto said it would be destroyed in the 1st hour, unless you get a custom made canvass cover, but thats serious $$$$

Weather is like any other place, unpredictable!.

April / May is when the swells start to increase, Jurien has a southern and northern channel, Since you have not been there before, I'd stick to the northern unless swell is down. (It's all marked)

Other than that make sure you post some pics!

Tue, 2012-02-14 10:53

oh cool. ok then no need for a tarp.

Yes i saw Reefmonkey or someone catch those 2 mackies from the dinghy just a few days ago. weather looked mint!

Jurien Marina

Also, you can leave your boat in a Pen overnight and it only costs $10 I think so you don't have the hassle of pulling it out everyday

The one in the left column

The one in the left column works fine.

Adding +site:http://fishwrecked.com after your query at google also works fine.

It is google!

Its a custom google search of the site, much like adding the +site:http://fishwrecked.com on the google site itself.

Be careful if you are going

Tue, 2012-02-14 13:44

Be careful if you are going to launch at Greenhead ramp. There is a large bombie in the bay which has taken out many a props. Make sure you have a chart if you going to try and get in and out of Greenhead, and the swell is under 2meters.
