borrowing a 13ft tinny and taking it to coral bay in a few weeks, if its calm enough to do so, trawling along the outside of the reef would ya pick up many mackies/tuna or are they a bit further out? same with your bottom dwellers would you get alot say only 1 mile out from the reef?
any help would be great :)

Mackies
Probably the best spot of all to troll for mackies is just outside of the breakers / reef.
Used to do well on small stuff inside the reef just south of the south passage.

South passage - plenty of
South passage - plenty of people trolling just behind while we were there so it's worth a crack. We didn't get any macks but plenty of tuna. If you head out a bit from there into 25m there are plenty of red throat, spanglies etc to keep you busy. It's a crèche there though so you've got to get through all the small ones / pickers. You need to keep your wits about you though through the south.
North passage - again have got fish around the elbow of the reef as you pull out the passage, it gets deep pretty quick. Can't say with the bottom species though as we haven't really spent much time in the shallows there. The north passage is a lot easier to navigate.
