kalbarri

Guys looking to take the family up to kalbarri sometime in the next month. Anyone got any pointers on good places to stay/what is the fishing like offshore at this time of year etc. Will be taking the new boat up so looking to get offshore and chase some TUNA. Is it too late in the season for that or will the Yellowfin be running. Any tips would be great.

I am not sure what sort of accommodation you are chasing, but the Tudor Caravan Park is a pretty good place to stay with a lot of good facilities.

The freezers at Tudor

Tue, 2008-08-26 11:33

were okay when I was there last October. They had no locks on them, but I just tied a couple of lockers up with cable ties.
There should be plenty of powered sites available for Simon at Tudor at this time of the year- even if he goes in the school hols.
The other option is the Murchison River, I haven't stayed there for awhile, but they are closer to the river and they say they have freezer facilities.
Their numbers are Phone: (08) 9937 1005
Fax: (08) 9937 1415

bugger, when i booked I asked about freezer facilities in the campers kitchen, and the bloke said there was none! surely the fridge would have one?

"They had no locks on them, but I just tied a couple of lockers up with cable ties."

Hi Wicksey

In the main camp kitchen they had a large freezer which contained smaller freezer lockers. Each of these has a lock and you could hire one of these freezer lockers from the Caravan Park. The last time I was there in October all the locks had been removed from the lockers. No-one was using the freezer lockers them and there was no sign saying I couldn't use them, so I did.

how was October

Tue, 2008-08-26 14:59

Colin - how was october - I made the mistake of hitting Exmouth in NOvember last year and got blown away. Does Kalbari cop the same treatment in September? I would not bother driving up if the odds were that it will be blowing its titties off and no chance of heading out wide.

Yeah Simon, September and October can get pretty windy

Tue, 2008-08-26 15:58

I have been going there at time of the year for the past 10 yaers and it is a bit hit and miss though. You can spend two weeks there and have strong sea breezes blowing pretty much every day and then the next year you could have reasonable winds for most of the two weeks. But I have to say it is generally fairly windy at that time of the year.

HOW Windy

Tue, 2008-08-26 17:43

Col - is it that sort of "dont bother putting the boat in wind", or mainly windy in the morning then dropping off in the arvo?

Hi Simon

It is normally blowing pretty hard in the arvo at that time of the year if the winds are up.

You might want to take some

You might want to take some spare jocks if the swell is running going through the river mouth. AKA washing machine
