Kalbarri current report
Submitted by chillbill on Thu, 2015-02-12 15:05
Hi all,
Went down to the local store in Perth today and was told there is a bit of pollution in the Murchinson river at the moment with accounts of dead fish and ill health upon locals. I would just like to confirm this news with anyone here that's up there as I've planned a trip to Kalbarri in 2 weeks time.
Thanks in advance,
B

gona say
gona say unless someone was dumping chems in the river its all fresh flush that is great for the river! The bresm love it n so do most of the fish. They are ver adept at the change in fresh to salt!
I saw a cplcrackheads get washed out mightve been them!!

Likely to be oxygen-deprived
Likely to be oxygen-deprived fish dying, quite normal when the river floods. The ones who are further upstream and not quick enough to get to the mouth will cark it in the mud and float down dead, happens every time. Flood water tends to be quite warm, too, which doesn't help with dissolved oxygen levels.
I was fishing weekend before last when last home, river had just started to run. Wandered up the coast a bit, looking here and there for nothing, then came on a really solid looking fish mark near the sandpatch. Bait and jig went down--GT's!! mixed with brassy's and sambos. Had some fun there for a while, got smoked as well by bigger fish.
