Kalbarri Fad?
Submitted by tomtom on Sun, 2016-03-20 22:18
Hey guys! Up in Kalbarri at the mo and having a blast with the palegics even though its not really turned on yet. Hearing rumours that there is a fad close by with heaps of action at the mo. Does anyone know the location of the Kalbarri FAD? It may be out of reach of my 4.7 platey but hoping its not too far out. Also if there is anyone else up around this way keen for a fish let me know!

There are three fads out, and all of them are within your reach.
The closest is just outside the Three Mile (19fathoms) Go due west 3 miles, and it is clearly visible just outside you. Another is a couple of miles just south of the point, south end of cliffs, and the other is up past the sandpatch a bit over two miles out.
I can give you the exact co-ordinates a bit later when I get onto the boat and fire the plotter up, or if someone else has them ? i've been away in Perth working for over a week, so don't really know how the fishing is going ATM.

No problem thanks mate. Someone has pm'd them to me so will go have a look at them today. Ive been here a couple of days, got my first mackie around 11kg on first day and a 14.7kg bluefin yesterday. Dont think its firing by normal standards but im having a great time!

Been trying all over really
Been trying all over really mate, caught first mack in 37m, second and third in about 18m, had a double hookup and landed both macks about 500m south of river mouth. They seem to be all over but not heaps of them. Caught the tuna in close north of sand patch. It was actually a longtail not a bluefin.
Ranmar is spot on, no real surface action. Put the time in and sure you will be rewarded! Good luck.
I'm in a 4.7m white/burgandy ali runabout. Say hey if ya see me and will let ya know how its been going

We were actually out there this morning
Quick troll before heading closer in to pull the pots and take them out of the water. Got one little spaniard, 8 maybe 9kg quite quickly, then no more action. Water actually looked the best I have seen for a long time, 23.9 and actually blue-ish. There is still a bit of ribbon weed around, need to check the lures regularly. Heav yovercast and no sun didn't help. But still bugger all birds and surface action, they are where you find them.

Here
Mariners are advised that three (3) Fish Aggregate Devices (FADs) will be deployed around 5th February 2016 in the Gantheaume Bay vicinity, Kalbarri at the following design locations for approximately twelve (12) months:
Each of the above FADs consists of an unlit yellow surface buoy, approximately one (1) metre in diameter, attached to the seabed.
No vessel is to moor to, or interfere, with these FADs at any time.
Mariners are advised to navigate with caution when transiting the area and keep well clear of the above FADs.

I was out there a couple of weeks ago, its gone. had never produced anything I'd heard of, anyway. I can't speak for the other two.
