Karratha fun
Headed to Karratha last week for work, and managed to get a days fishing in while i was up there
Conditions were not perfect to say the least, with the wind pushing along, but still easily fishable.
Started early in the morning, only to be stopped by an extremely low tide, and couldnt get out of the ramp at dampier due to there being no water!!!
So waited an hour for the tide to come in and finally managed to launch.
Headed out about 15 miles and played with some mac tuna (i think they are) for a while.
6-7kg tuna go hard on 8lb gear :)
Hooked up to a Tuna on 8lb gear!
Sometimes happens on light gear!
Another nice Toona!
And another
Quite a few cobia around too with a couple double headers coming up. They went hard on 30lb!!
and another
Mr Charlie had a hard day!!
Managed some trout too, this one went 58cm
Also a nice Mangrove jack which was a surprise.
All in all a good day on the water, but dam hot!!!!

Excellent Bodie
Some great fish there mate. A double header of cobia is a pretty good effort. It looks and sounds like you had a fun time in Karratha.

Nice work on the light gear.
Nice work on the light gear. Chasing tuna on 8lb spinning gear sounds awesome. What rod is that in the first pic?
I'd love to catch some of those cobes on light jigging gear. Did you keep any of them?

kept 2 which were well over
kept 2 which were well over size. Great tucker, had some night before last on the bbq, bit of salt and pepper, and a drizzle of Lemon...
Tuna was awesome fun. Rod was a Diawa redback 4kg spin rod.
Good tough rods, got a few sambos on them too in Perth :) up around 14-15kgs.
Cabia went read hard. Were on a monster mesh, saltiga z6500 30lb braid, and even that was hard work!

only fishing 22metres of so,
only fishing 22metres of so, on a ledge which dropped from 10m.
lost plenty of good fish too, either busted off, or bitten off.
Couple of blokes on the boat had not done much fishing before, and had a blast catching charlie courts, moses perch, stripies and more hand over fist!
Tried a couple jigs and plastics but didnt get a lot of action, few tugs on the plastic, and bitten in half a couple times but that was about it.

yep plenty of dam
yep plenty of dam sharks!!!
But plenty of dam sharks just about everywhere.
However the 2 currents that meet just north of the patch is probably why, and i assume thats why so many tuna are there.

Nar mate , The last one
Nar mate ,
The last one caught on my boat (wasnt too far from there ) was a BIG , big eye tuna.
Took some time to work out what is was and went over 22kg. NO B/s mate.
There was heap of smaller ones smashing the top so I put a Yo-zurie deep diver on to see what was under the smaller ones .
