Karratha help needed!!

Hi Guys
I'm heading to Karratha to visit a mate who has recently moved up there. I'm only there for four days and was hoping to get a quick fish in for some threadies( my favourite eating fish) while I'm up north. Can anyone let me know if this is a good time of year in Karratha for these? I know there is plenty in Broome at the moment but will not have time to get up there.
Never fished Karratha before so any tips would be greatly appreciated, have already got some info of the search section but the more info the better.
Cheers, Choc.

Check the tides
if its neeps you can get them in the Nickol river. You have to cross mud flats so at the end of neeps is better as they dry out more. As pricey said a tinny take away the guess work
There are two types of people ,do'ers and watchers
Right now the do'ers are the doing it
And the watchers are watching us do it

I fished fields creek
I fished fields creek yesterday and tried hard body and soft plastics (5 different lures with different colours) and didn't get a hit after casting for about an hour. The salmon were definately there because they were launching out the water at the little shrimp on the surface right next to the bank of the creek. I managed to catch live poddy mullet and even that didn't get a hit. I woul suggest trying a prawn/shrimp soft plastic if you can get them because they weren't interested in anything I was throwing at them. Also fish the slack tide on the low or high tide. Fish stopped biting when the water started flowing into the creek.
I will add it was very dissapointing to see someone had set an illegal fish net across the creek. The bloody thing was at least 25m long! I got out the boat to have a closer look and found 3 dead rotting barra all over 700mm long. As I was cutting it down I found 3 massive live muddies also tangled up.
Greedy arseholes have no respect for the environment.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

. My mate has a 5.3m quintrex, don't know what the creeks are like up there but I'm guessing this will be too big?
Griffo , thats good to hear that you saw a few. In Broome we tend to anchor and bait fish for threadies, this a method worth trying in Karratha?

I have a 5.35m trailcraft
I have a 5.35m trailcraft and is a perfect size for creeks. Yes anchoring up and using live mullet will give you your best chance, however, I have caught threadies on mulies and chunks of mullet from the servo. I have also seen threadies caught on hard body lures trolling. As I said yesterday they were there right in front of us but weren't touching anything we threw at them.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

I just reported the netting
I just reported the netting to karratha fisheries and they said some locals from Roebourne are more than likely the owners of the net. They also mentioned the nets are legal to aboriginal people if they have native title. These nets shouldn't be allowed at all because they are so destructive.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

Well done griffo, I don't care if they have native title either, they never fished traditionally with a net, so it shouldn't be permitted.

agree with dale re the
agree with dale re the indigenous population having no traditional history of net fishing here that im aware of before white inhabitants landed , they are known to have built fish traps in rivers creeks etc
using modern gear and claiming it is a traditional method is ridiculous imo , however if it was an licenced indigenous net they should have their gear id no preceded by a large A on the net floats at both ends of the ent , same as for anyone else with a net licence
no floats or gear id and she is an illegal net no matter who owns it
