Karratha report 12/6/12

Headed out for my first real bottom bounce today after what seems like a month and a half of 'nuking winds' up here.  Fish were on the bite as soon as we got there and first fish up was a nice 55cm trout, followed by a decent red for me, a double header trout and baby red, rankins, spangles and more baby reds.  After a while the bite shut down, but long enough for us to get a bit of table fare.  We went looking for spots after that and trolled for a while with no luck, found some interesting ground and were plagued by solid golden trevs (saved for future jigging and plastics trip, will be awesome light tackle fun)  Didn't get around to getting a 'table' shot unfortunately, but sure there will be a few in the future.  Also got a nice 55cm trout and 55cm bluebone on the spear yesterday which was my first real dive in the area, things are looking promising!

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Nice work Adsy, I fished Karratha for 6 years and I never cracked the red code... mind you I never fished anything besides jigs and they can be finicky on those!

A few to start the ball rolling

Did you go "wide"?

When the wind is blowing we still go out, just have to endure the straights to get out of the prevailing wind, and then all sorts off fun in the lea of islands. The wind only stop us if it is 25+knots. However you wont gaurantee a red fish, but trout is still on the menu, aswell as chunky bluebone. That code belong to Jill, havent mastered them bastartds yet without crab. They dont like jigs and SPs.

wide

Wed, 2012-06-13 18:48

Yep, what I'd consider very wide for Exxy!  Thats what diving is for Neels, if they won't take bait or plastics, then a hole in the head will fix them.  Looking forward to sussing out the inclose stuff next and then finding some more stuff outwide if the weather permits.  One thing about this place, even if it is a light wind, the conditions are still pretty bloody average.

(when you say wide i'm guessing in the 50m range) we found a few last time but moved and stayed away from them which was good but we didn't get any reds or trout just bloody rankin cod all day! come on two weeks time when i get a weekend to go fishing i need fish and squid ASAP

Stop your bloody whinging boys! Beats Perth any day!
