Most people on the water

Thu, 2011-06-30 21:15

Most people on the water fishing have a hobie peddle kayak,,usually the Outback, Revolution or Adventure around $2500 or more its been a couple years since i brought my Adventure.

Be aware W.A ,s hobie kayak dealer closes its doors for good in a couple days (2nd of july) i believe, its at Bibra lake in renewable chase,,but you will still be able to buy Hobie kayaks in Osbourne park Ranger/getaway store.

Ocean kayaks have a good paddle range with the Prowler 13 very popular,Local builders finns kayaks have the Finn Cuda thats popular,,not sure of the price on these,,

At Ocean Kayak, they didn't invent the original sit-on-top kayak. They just perfected it. Innovation has been there mission since they launched the first sit-on-top in 1971.

Here are just a few of Ocean Kayak's innovation examples:

  • Roto-molded sit on top kayaks — Ocean Kayak was one of the first brands to start manufacturing and selling rotationally molded sit-on-top kayaks.
  • Our Malibu Two is the world's most popular sit-on-top. Why? They have a patented overlapping foot wells that allow one, two and even three people (a smaller person in the middle) to fit comfortably in a compact tandem.
  • The Venus line offers the first sit on tops that were specifically designed for women.
  • Stackable hulls — several of our models were designed to be stacked. This allows for easier storage.
  • The tri-hull design enhances stability as the boat eases through the water. The long center keel area encourages boats to track straight when paddling and coasting. The wider "shoulder" areas of the hull ride high at the surface of the water without compromising speed under moderate paddling conditions. These areas provide signifigant secondary stability, and result in a very user friendly kayak design. In addition, Ocean Kayak hulls derive their stiffness from compound curves rather than sharp lines. These curves have fewer stress points, which makes them less likely to crack than other kayak designs, even under impact.
  • As a result of 35 years of effort, today's sit-on-tops are safer, more durable and much more enjoyable. No need to say thanks, though. Just get out there and have fun.

Careful though, paddling is addictive. It is not unusual for people to own several kayaks and paddles for different activities once they've caught the bug.

hobie outback gets my nod .. not that ive been out fishing in it a great deal but its a great machine ..

its a bit shorter than the Revolution but wider .. so i suppose the Revo would be faster and drier .. but i went for stability adn its fast enough (quicker than my other mates can paddle there prowlers)

Safety Gear

Fri, 2011-07-01 09:11

What ever you buy ensure you purchase some safety equipment. Lifejacket a must but also recommend flare kit( with water proof container) and hand held radio, VHF the best.

Does not matter how far offshore you go you can still get in trouble and always good to be able to attract someones attention. We actually have a couple of Kayakers who log on when they go out using a VHF Radio.

I made inquireis about buying a kayak at BCF and getaway Camping at Joondalup and was told I only need a lifejacket even though I said I would be going up to 2nm offshore.

Recommend you go through Allboats. They know their stuff and always very helpful. Buy most of my boating gear from them. Also tackle shop excelent.

Flares, anchor, bailor and PFD1 lifjacket are a statutory requirement for offshore in WA, with VHF if going further offshore.  have a look here for safety stuff on yak fishing:

Go to the Osbourne Park store if you are interested in the Hobie Range as they are highly reccomended as the top guys there are kayak fisherman themselves.

Allboats Prowler 13 is a fantastic price and its worth calling in and checking it out if you get a chance.

Fishing licence

Sun, 2011-07-10 07:11

My son is thinking of getting a Hobie and was wondering if he needs a R.B.L. to take fish from a kayak. We've read all the imfo on DPI regulations but can't find any ony RBL's.

Cheers
