Kayak Jigging in NZ!

 Hey guys,
I'm Michael and new to the forum.

I'm heading to NZ for a kayak fishing comp and will be chasing big snapper, Kingfish along with a few others!
Now I'm a confident yakker but I have szero experience on chasing Kings, and I'll be mostly throwing big plastics at them but will try some jigging.

Does anyone have any tips that would help me out? Be it lures, combos or methods.

I'm still sorting out my combos for the trip and obviously have been looking to watch my costs but am keen on getting a combo in the pe 3  - 5 region for the big guys.

Cheers.

welcome aboard. dont know about yak fishing and have never been to nz jigging but from what i have seen on tv make sure you tie all your gear on securely as the kings get big and pull hard over there, would hate to see all the gear sinking to the bottom if you get turned over by a big fish.

good luck, hope to see some good results from you over there

king yak!

hey welcome to the forum Michael!

I've done alot of jigging of the old yak! I take it out on the boat then jig off the yak from there.. Brought up many 20kg+ specimens of the sareola kind sambo, kingy,Amber Jack also sharks and greyband and even a marlin.. I fish with saltiga 4500 or Stella sw7

on 65-100lb to horse them up past the sharks.. I find if your fishing 100m+ u should fight the fish in the standard forward facing position, once the fish is 30-m turn sideways to the the yak and lean back!! Lock the drag up und use the yak as an anchor.. Has helped me Many Times with strong directional changes with the fish.. Also if your shallow, a small slow drift anchor will help.

are you based off Perth when not in Nz?
