The FG knot and the PR knot would both be thinner than the GT or albright. They don't fold or loop the mono line at all, so the size of the knot is only slightly thicker than whatever the mono leader your using.
The GT and albright both have to loop the mono back on it self so the size of the knot is over twice the thickness of the mono.
I use the FG when casting and dont' have any problems.
although i use bimini to albright, just tying your braid straight to an albright (without a bimini) is extremely strong and a much thinner knot than the double braid(bimini) loops around the doubled mono of an albright. ive tested this knot severely at home (without scales though) and it doesnt appear to be any weaker than bimini/albright. it also helps people who havent mastered the bimini yet. cheers
I'm still learning a few of the braid to mono knots and the GT is very easy. Good for bottom bouncing as you don't need to cast and it still comes up through the guides ok. Guy at my fishing shop did a PR knot for me on one of my set ups,now that is an awesome knot but you need a bobbin to do it.
I tell ya what i just tied the Yucatan knot and dam thats by far the easiest to tie. Will have to do a bit of testing with it. Any reasons people dont use it ?
I was using this knot for years and still use it occasionally when I get busted off and need to rerig quickly otherwise I use the pr and FG knots, the yucatan knot can sometimes jam on the rod guides while casting due to the way the tag end of the leader faces also I have found in lighter lines the braid can cut through the leader when pulling the knot tight, very quick and easy knot to tie tho
Have personally tied it up to 50lb braid and 100 lb leader, have found tho that sometimes the knot slips, good knot to know thomas It is really quick and easy
By light line I'm referring to light gear (4lb braid 6lb leader)
Told you guys it was awesome!!
Not too many Cons to be honest. IT does not pull up well with a hard leader like Fluorcarbon but can still be done. As for slippage once you get it right you should never have a problem again.
The trick is to do enough turns for the line size but also make sure the first twist around the braid happens soon when tightening and you are fine. Also make sure you clinch it tight when done to ensure all slippage is gone.
It's my go to knot and I trust it fully.
the pros are it is very strong, stronger than the highly regarded Albright. The mono sits on the outside so the braid is not damaged as easy, it's much more slender than an Albright and of course is very quick to tie and get you on the water quicker.
My argument is that if it is say 10% less strength than a fancy friction knot that takes 10 minutes to tie, I'll take that and fish with the half a kilo less of drag, or get 10 pound heavier line to begin with!
For what it's worth I tie it opposite to this. I pinch a small loop in the Bimini and pass the leader through it. I wrap the leader around the braid up to 12 times then pass it back through the same small pinched loop where I started. It pulls up the same. I just find it a little bit easier as it uses the thicker single line to do all the work.
+1 for the yacatan knot, strongest knot I have ever used but can be difficult to get it to bunch up nice sometimes. I find that an Albright comes undone after a few runs through the guides.
Sorry to clarify, the way I do it is a little more different as effectively the leader travels through the braid loop at the start and back through at the end which it what I said but the link above is not quite the same as it o pH goes through at the end. I believe that helps with slippage. I've looked at a few Internet links and sometimes my version has been referred to as the Bristol or no name knot.

I use a bimini twist double in braid to an albright ,pretty quick and strong once youve sussed the bimini, can be casted too...

GT hands down, easy to do
GT hands down, easy to do once you get the hang of it.
type it into you tube and practice, just a tip smear a dob of superglue over your knots, my opinion only but it seems to help the knots stick.

yeah I need something that I can cast with - the FG knot looks to be a little big for casting.

I'm using
I'm using the improved Albright at the moment. I got an eagle ray to the boat last weekend so I'm fairly certain it passed the test.
I tried tying the Bimini to Albright but my Bimini wasn't going to plan at all (see sh*t).
A lot of people knock the Albright though....

I pre tie all our 20lb+ setups at home with PR knots then if we get a bust of out there I generally use a Bimini to Albright.
As said above make the call on what knot you want to use, then practice, practice, practice!

The yucatan is a slimmer and quicker knot than the Albright. Nothing wrong with the Albright but the Yucatan is my pick of the two.
