Koden cvs 128 - Bit of help needed
Submitted by Happy Hooker on Sat, 2013-03-16 08:10
Hi all, wondering if anyone has the above sounder. Installed it recently and works very well with transom mount airmar 1kw. Still learning functions etc. Am doing some fine adjustments as it is dropping out when I hit 20kn plus so might have to lower tranny a bit.
The instruction book isnt 100% clear (to me anyhow!).I mainly do bottom bouncing in the 50-100m range and not sure which setting is best for different applications (eg bottom lock to compensate swell etc, which one to use when looking for lumps/coral) both when cruising and also drifting.
Its got differing Zooms being: Bottom/Bottom Discrimination/Zoom/Bottom Zoom/Bottom Zoom Follow.
All info appreciated !

Had a play with one at
Had a play with one at chistmas on a mates boat at the Abrolhos. He had been running it just on auto.
A switch onto bottom lock and then just a few tweaks with the gain and I found it to be pretty good.
He got it from the Mandurah boat show a couple of years ago and was installed by the seller.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

Run a split screen
on bottom discrim that way you can tell a lot easier if you are on hard or soft bottom. Set the bottom discrim 2/3 of the screen and about 5m from the bottom (general depth dhuies hang around). If fishing in 100m have a range setting of about 40m - 60m and shift down so you can see the bottom in the bottom 3rd of the screen. But before you play with shift set your range to 300m with the gain setting so you have a strong double echo, then change your range back to 40m-60m ( so you only see the bottom 40m-60m) - this way you will have more power on the gain button( maximising the transducer power). Now turn the gain down so your clutter is almost gone
Also run the A-scope on the right hand side, very handy feature. Screen speed 1/1...give it a go. You should see individual fish close to the bottom

Hey mate, I have the same
Hey mate, I have the same unit and love it. Its amazing how good it can distinguish dhuies from other fish. When looking for ground I use the bottom discrimination mode at a 3m range and split with the normal mode at a 30m range for a 50m depth. If I'm at a spot where I already know where the ground is I just use the normal mode at 30m range to find where abouts the fish are. Dhuies show up on the normal mode as big balls on the bottom, you can't miss them. Most other fish show as varying degrees of arches. In 50m depth I would use a gain of around 3.5. Don,t go to high on the gain or you start seeing things that are a waste of time. There is heaps of other options that you can change when fishing at different depths or after different fish. When I look for sambo schools I turn the colour percentage down so I only see schools of large fish and not schools of bait. Just have to play around with it and experiment. The auto fuction on these units is a waste of time so get used to doing things manually. I sayed that loosing bottom at 20kts is more to do with the tranducer angle, depth and position. No easy to fix but to try different set ups. I have moved mine a million times to find the best position but now can read bottom at any speed until I go deep and have to slow right down but thats the same for everyone.

Thanks heaps Seaquest
Appreciate your info. Unit is excellent and cant fault it, just needed some help with fine tuning and will use the tips next time I get out. Have dropped the transduce about 5mm or so and will see how that goes. Its "just" dropping out so hope that will fix.
Thanks to all.
