Land based fishing around perth

I have been fishing around the river for a while and have decided that it might be time to try have a go at some bigger fish around our beachs but I really don't have a clue where to start.

I would gladly accept any help anyone can give me to help me get started and would appreciate it if you can dumb it down as much as possible as well.

Hi Aidan Do you have much beach fishing experience?

How old are you? What rod and reel do you have to use on the beach or rocks? Are you north or south of the river?

I ask these questions because the spots and technics I might suggest will depend on the answers you give.

I ussually fish light

I ussually fish light as possible and my main outfit is 3lb line on a 6 ft graphite rod. its very light for most stuff but i have found that with the line being braid (berkley fireline) I can stop most fish up to about 50 cm.

I also have a 10 ft beach rod with 6 kg line that I use only occasionaly as its too much effort to use when the fish are small.

As for beach fishing experience I have only fished of the beach once before and that was up at exmouth.

I live south of the river and can get to most places between woodmans point and port beach.

I can't help you too much with spots down that way.
Tackle wise, you will be ok fishing beaches where there is a small swell, or no beach break.
Best rigs for fishing the beaches are a surf paternoster, or a running sinker rig. Some of the best baits are pilchards, whiting or herring for tailor and mulloway, squid, ox heart or prawn for bream, whiting, flathead and herring.
Let me know if you want any more specific info.
