North Metro Sat morning
Submitted by matabeles on Wed, 2009-11-25 14:10
Got up early on Sat to have a go at one of the north Metro beaches. Arrived at the beach around 04:00 to find a couple of fisho's (fishwrecked crew I think) in the prime spot, so I walked up the beach casting a Rapala X-rap 10cm into the surf and gutters. In about 2 hrs I managed 3 herring all about the same size and lost another something that pulled a fair bit harder. The herring were bigger than I have caught before, so a good few morning hours.

I love those xraps, the 6 and 8 are good size for most fish and the 12 is killer on salmon. Bloody big herring, eat it?
Favourite pattern xrap too ;)

Had a busy morning ahead so those lucky herring went back to fight another day. Wayno those weeds are living on the rocks I was fishing from, can only fish this spot comfortably/safely on a low tide. Got to love the herring though, they fight all the way in and then some. Had a job getting the pic between waves, and the fish jumping all over the place.
