Last night 07/05 with sounder porn

Yesterday afternoon I decided to head out seeing as the wind was forecast to be low. I thought I'd hit the water about 3pm and get set up for a pinky bash. By the time I watched most of the V8s and fueled the boat up, it was getting on for after 4pm by the time I hit the water. I guess going solo means no-one is waiting for you! Heading out from Hillarys into almost calm conditions I couldn't help but be distracted by the bait busting up everywhere. I threw a variety of lures and trolled around a bit but couldn't extract a take from whatever was hunting the mulies. When you could see a few hundred busting up on top, there were another million under the boat. Quite a sight to see.

By this time the sun was almost setting and I think I missed the opportunity to get the berley trail going. When I set the anchor a few miles west of scarborough there was so little wind the boat just kind of floated around. I think it went 360 degrees about 4 times during the night. As soon as I got my line in the water I had an undersize pink take the bait and I thought I might be in for a lucky session.

Not long after it was propper dark I was bombarded by a cloud of skippy and while they weren't big fish, they seemed big when winding them up 2 at a time. It was the first of about 10 double headers with a couple being used for bait and the others released.

Skipp cloud on the sounder:

Followed by skipps on the deck:

I also managed to get a double header of snook as well and sent one down as a whole injured bait. This rod was soon losing line to what I can only assume was a shark as I got bitten off not long into the fight. The second one managed to produce a decent sambo of about 4kg that was sent back.

So the story of the night was I needed to be able to measure the double headers to get a legal pink:

Sorry for the crappy photos but when you have no friends you have to go solo! ha ha

How good does that first one look. Can see the hunters down on the left. Hard getting a bait past the skips when they're like that.
