Late breaking Moonraker news
Submitted by Colin Hay on Thu, 2009-07-30 10:24
Many thanks to Matt (Mako Magic)from the Tackle Shack who has managed to perform a miracle by putting my Moonraker back together.
Considering the damage done when it snapped, there is a chance that it may go again, but at least Matt has given it a chance to rise from the ashes (or the green garbo bin where it was headed).
I hope to give Moonraker II a test out over the next few days and will post up some pics.
All the best, Colin Hay

Good to hear Colin. How did
Good to hear Colin. How did Matt end up fixing it? If it does happen to break again, I hope its on a fish of a lifetime.

Thanks Matt I hope it is a big Mulloway
It might help if I describe what was broken. As you know the Moonraker is a three-piece. The piece (about 2 to 3 inches long) that broke right off was at the top of the bottom section where the ferrule for the next section is inserted.
Getting it back together is a bit of a funny story. I was thinking of using the low rider guides off the Moonraker on a new Purglas blank I had just bought and Mako suggested I bring the Moonraker in and line it up with the blank so we could check out guide placements, etc.
Anyway, to help line it up with the blank, I stuck the second section into the top of the bottom broken section and it fitted like a glove.
A light blinked in Mako's head and he said "I can fix that" with a bit of trimming up and some re-binding - and that was it.

Never trust
these flash blokes at the tackle shops Col - if it goes again give it to me and i can make it bulletproof - a bit of 3/4" gal water pipe and 20 metres of gaffer tape will sort it right out. Glad to hear it was hopefully repairable.
