Had a crack at installing an Elete 7 in a mates dingy today. Think i would have had a much better time if i hadent left the electrical Box up at two rocks.
I was pretty un-impressed with what was supplied straight from the box. Sounder mounting screws were to small for the mount holes with no washers supplied. Not enough wire crimps supplied and cheapass ones at that. No cable clips at all to secure the transducer cable.
2 trips to bunnings later and it all looks ok. Well the power is on and the transducer picks up my grass pretty good..lol
Will be launching it at two rocks tomorrow to see how the tranny goes.

Test drive
Took the sounder for a test drive today and all went well.
It does seem to take a fair while to power up and the screen changes are not the fastest but hey you do get what you pay for.

They are slow to load
What transducer? I bought an Elite-7 Chirp this year, came with the 83/200 Xducer. Never been happy with it, partly for the fact is has a really crappy mounting system with the flimsy s/s bracket instead of the heavier plastic bracket with the stronger locking system. And the picture is losing defintion by 20 fathoms, IMO. I had an older 50/200 Lowrance xducer already mounted, it was a lot stronger than the 83/200, much better bottom discrimination and fish showing. But no water temp readout (analogue instead of digital output, apparently) So i bought a HDS-7 50/200 from here s/h, turned out that it doesn't support CHIRP so I don't have downscan. But I do have water temp. Haven't had the chance to try performance yet.
