Use your normal FG but tie it slowly and make sure each wrap of the braid is tightly pulled down on the mono. I'd say the braid is cutting the mono due to being wrapped inconsistently

nah i can assure you that the fg is getting nicely wrapped, as it my go to leader knot i tried it about 15 time already and each time it cuts the leader half way through the knot

sorry hutch cant figure out how to post photos, i can assure you that they being tied perfectly, been using the fg for a while now and have never had one break like these are.

was thinking the same thing, if i cant get anything to work i will probably go get some other stuff

but like i said before, i have used the same spool before on 8lb frog braid and has worked perfectly fine 

 i have found that the more abrasive braids (especially 4 strand) tends to cut the leader when pulling the braid to leader knot tight. Additional saliva often helps but some braids just seem to cut into the leader when "pulling up" the knot, than what other brands of braid does.

 What load is the knot being subjected to before failing?

Could it simply be that the braid is breaking above it's rated strain or the leader is breaking slightly below (or a bit of both) causing the start of the leader to be the first weak point? This can be tested by using maybe a 10lb leader and seeing where the failure point is

What others do is use a light gauge clip (to be sacrificial) to attach to the lure which is rated lower than your leader and mainline so that at most you lose the lure and don't need to re-tie your leader

 scano, frog braid is high quality 8 strand braid, i believe becasue the diameter is so small and the braid is nicely round it is cuttting too much into the leader.

Moist and Salty, ive tried to break the leader and braid by hand with out any knots in it and i havnt been able to. the knot stength is very low, the knot that does seem to have the best breaking strain is a bimini twist plus a fg. but even still it is breaking far to early to be resonable. 

 Not the easiest to tie as you need a bobbin but I have never had one fail. As the braid is only wrapped it shouldn't cut through the leader. I have never tied one in line that  small though.

clarky29 that is pretty much the only knot that i havnt tried as i havnt got a bobbin. 

might have to invest in one though if no other options are available 

 I would try and tie the same leader knots with a different braid and/or leader, even some powerpro or something and you'll be able to either eliminate the braid or the leader as the problem. I had the same problems when yamatoyo 6lb when that was considered a top quality braid and ended up binning it as i lost more $ in lures than it would have cost to buy a new line. More than likely i'd say your knots are fine, since you've tried all these good knots and still have the same problem. 

Try using a loop in the 6lb frog braid,then tying a albright.

i have got 8lb frog on another reel and that hasnt had any propblems with knots before, like i said to hutch ill probably go and buy my self some new leader and see what that does. hopefully it doesnt end up as a re-spool 

 Interesting. Just curious, what outfit are you using ? To use such light line on baitcast it would have to be properly matched up (rod & reel) else pretty hard to get distance with light lures not to mentioned birdsnests.

 Anyway, I too have experienced the same thing on my light spin outfit - 6lb fireline Nanofil & 8lb Sunline FC.  In fact, the leader simply snaps while I am doing the wraps. When you are doing the wraps on FG, try not to put too much pressure. I find doing firm lighter wraps help.

the baitcast outfit is a daiwa tatula ct matched to a major craft benkei (3-10lb) 

i spent a few hours trying to find the right rod, major craft (and japan in general) have a few options for light baitcasting outfits, the benkei stood out for me as it was in my price range but also has high quality aspects to it

i prefer using baitcasters for a lot of my lure casting, i find that i can work lures better and get a better feel for what the lure is doing. I went for a quick flick this morning around salter point, after tying a bimini and a fg knot (the knot that takes the most effort to brake), and while using a cranka crab i was getting good distance. I then went to a berkley fat dog which is 3.5 grams, i probably wouldnt go any lighter than this (might go to 3 grams when i get used the outfit a bit more) as it was a bit hard to get any accuracy and distance out of it. as for birdnests, for the first 15 minutes i got a few smaller ones but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. 

I pretty much bought the set up as a light lure rod to use off my rebuilt boat, which is pretty much a breaming boat, so i dont really have to worry about distance, more so just accuracy which the baitcaster excels in.

 Good stuff Nathan. Rapala has a good range of UL baitcast rod dedicated for UL lures but I cannot recall the models at the top of my head. I generally steer clear of baitcast in Perth due to the wind to avoid the dreaded birdnests.

I started my baitcasting decades ago using 8-14lb outfits so that's way heavierwhat you are using. Used my GLoomis outfit once off FFB with pretty good results - sambos, pinkies etc on feather jigs & plastics.

You are damn right about baitcaster giving better feedback, also better way to work your lures.

 Probably can pick a few pointers from you after decades of cold storage of my baitcasting gears - my educated thumb is no longer that educated anymore lolz...

i never really expect to catch anything decent around perth, considering i am used to fishing my home town busselton. it is generally just a good reason to get away from university and exam study haha
