leave your radio on and log on

got towed in by an eagles supporter today[thank you sir], put the pots in no problems, headed back to o/reef at 4000rpm, bugger alarm and she cuts back to 2000rpm and sounding rough, carried on for awhile then asked the deckie to squeeze the fuel bulb and you could feel it recovering and then she was away, went not too far and the same thing happened, tried everything but it wouldn't start so called up VJ6LQ requesting a tow, we were only about a kay out dead calm,so they said they were getting a crew in when our friendly eagles supporter cruised up and offered a tow in.cancelled the tow from sea rescue and in we went, Mummm spent some time draining carbs etc, went on to the yammy spare tank, new plugs and seems like new, will test it tomorrow, big thanks to sea rescue and the guy who towed us in who heard the radio call and came to our assistance, crays for tea Friday we hope

Private vessels towing

Wed, 2015-10-28 07:22

Just need to be careful when accepting or offering to tow a vessel. Some insurance comapnies will not cover you in the event of an accident such as running into another vessel when being towed into harbour.

We see it quite a lot and most people are shocked when we tell them.

That is why we have insurance that covers it all as our vessels are specially built and crew trained for rescue work

Insurance...

Wed, 2015-10-28 08:44

...the private boater IS covered if the request for a tow is initiated by sea rescue. Got the call from Jurien VMR on several occasions simply because I was much closer to the distressed vessel than they were and it was simply a case of common sense prevailing!

Job Number

To make sure you are covered ask for a Water Police job number, that way you have the insurance cover if needed.
