Leeman

Thinking about heading up to Durien Leeman tomorrow night for a Monday fish at Leeman. I know it's as long way but I don't mind a drive for a chance to get some good fish and get away for a mission.

I've looked at the search function on here but there is no recent information. Mostly a couple of years old..

I'm looking for info on the boat ramp. Is it a good one? The search function shows merntions of an upgrade so I'm thinking we shouldf be good to go.

Any other tips or pointers or current info on safe boating in and out and places to start looking for fish would be great. Looks like good weather on the way so not afraid to drive the boat out deep if necessary. I've only ever landed one Dhu on my boat and it wasn't huge. It would be great to get a couple of nice dhues between me and my mate...

There are 2 ramps in town now

the old ramp is pretty shallow and gravel, the new ramp is no trouble provided you are used to retrieving in a more open bay environment (not a marina). I don't think you will have any dramas with the new ramp, it's pretty user friendly. Leeman holds good fish and the locals there don't have to drive all that far to get their weekly feed of demersal fish. When we went up there, if you head west about 20 mile out, that's where the good ground starts!

if I had the chance to go Monday, I would be going. Nice place, nice and quiet, still has that good small costal town feel to it.

Just having a look at it now. The ramp facility looks good on Google earth. Looks very new. Can't seem to find Keenan on the Navionics app. Is it a local reef?

Use sea rescue

Dont use the new ramp its crap, way too steep and slippery. At last count they were in double digets for the amount of cars lost in less than a year.

Use the sea rescue ramp and just head noth to the new one. I used to launch a 25ft boat at the sea rescue ramp no dramas.

Enjoy!

Leeman caution

Sun, 2017-08-20 23:20

A couple of words of caution for Leeman, just check your charts and follow the leads when heading out and in. If you launch at the old ramp dont head straight out as lots of submerged bomies, stay in close and head north to channel markers and follow out (you will pass the new ramp as you get to the markers.

Find the break in the reef and always go through there, if the swell is over 3m it will break accross at times.

Head out west to 40m of water.

 Leeman update. I used the

Leeman update. I used the new ramp which is a little steep but not a problem for the 200 series. I could see it being a problem if there was a large weed build up but today there was no weed on the south ramp and the north ramp had weed but not much and could have been removed by hand. Had a slow start to fishing & ended up out at the drop off where we eventually did really well. Report & photos on another post.
