Lewmar Anchor Winch (Chain size confirmation) on 2006 Trailcraft 660 Trailblazer

Hi Fish Wrecked members,

Wondering if anyone is running a Lewmar Anchor Winch fitted by Saltwater marine at the time of boat purchase?

I have a 2006 Trailcraft 660 Trailblazer with the Lewmar unit fitted, although the spec plate on the unit is faded/rusted & unable to read the details / Winch Manual pages through the 10 years have stuck together & also unable to read,

Does anyone with the the same winch unit (2006 fitted) have details on the Chain Link size suitable for this unit?

I may also need to replace the gypsy on the unit, which i believe can be bought online, although want to make sure we purchase the right chain size so far,

my feeling is the unit will handle 6-8mm short link chain - can someone confirm?

cheers,

Jordan

I brought similar size boat & winch from Saltwater marine, in 2013, dont have the boat anymore. Parts ordered online always were delivered thru the boat parts supply shop at South Perth Yacth club. They are/were  the dealer/supplier for the Lewmar winch back then. Maybe give them a call

Likely to be 6mm short link

Although I have heard issues with some American winches in Australia, in that they needed 1/4" short link, and 6mm didn't work well?  Do you have any of the old chain still with it? just get calipers and measure overall length and link diameter.

Is this the winch you have?

I have this installed on my reef runner and it takes a 6mm short link chain. It operates perfectly on chain but I have some issue with my installation as i don't have a suitable drop for the rope and it bunches up with anything more that 30meters unless someone is there to clear the rope away.

Darren253 - mine is a vhorizontal unit, but yes can also catch on the underside of the gypsy if the rope is coiled and kinked in the anchor well,

Ranmar850 - yes, i think 6mm is the go, unfortunately original anchor & chain that came with the unit is sitting out in the sound, need to grow a pair and dive on it, although 25+m of water not too favourable,

wez0062 - will make a phone call to South Perth Yacht club to see what i can find out, was going to duck past Yacht Grot today to have a chat also,

i checked with Saltwater and apparently can also take 8mm shortlink, i'll need to replace the gypsy though.

Gypsy

the lewmars (profish series I think mine is) can be fitted with different size gypsy. I have a different boat but it was supplied with an 8mm gypsy.

i had 6mm chain so swapped gypsy out ( I have a spare 8mm gypsy somewhere). Not sure how you check it. I think the gypsy had some writing on it.

I'll see if I can dig out the old gypsy and seee where the size is written.

on another note. When I had problems with my winch the national rep couldn't have been more helpful.

Gypsy

There is nothign written on the gypsy, however the 8mmm is small diameter than the 6mm.

If it helps, i can measure it.

I have the profish 1000, but it uses the same gypsy as the 700.
