As much as everyone will tell you that it rarely happens to lose a rod out of the rocket launchers I still feel better securing my rods up there.
I bought some 4mm elastic rope ( BCF for couple dollars per metre ) and tied one end close to each holder and tied some cheap aluminium caribiner clips to the other end , see bunnings or supercheap for about $1.00 each.
I then just clip the caribiners to either the handle or bail and no worries about losing them.
To tidy the loose ends of the elastic rope I used heat shrink to stop the knots from untying and also looks better.
Will attach some pics in next few days to show what I mean.
I'm more concerned about the rods flogging around against the holders than actually loosing them. I haven't really found an answer to that yet. I had an aftermarket alloy reel handle work lose and fall off one day but I think it was more the install of the handle which was done by the shop I bought the reel from.
to stop them flogging out around in there could you get some kind of rubber or something so it is tight fitting around the rod handle so it stops them boucing around in the holder?
Never used anything, rods just sitting straight in the launchers, I have 7 rods up top, and have come home in some serious crap from 40 NM out, with Tiagras, Stellas and MegaTwins in the rocket launchers, never had an issue.
What I meant was that I have never had an issue with rods coming out the launchers, and thus if they were coming out you are probably in a situation where rods are the least of your concerns.
If you are concerned about losing them, maybe store them somewhere lower in the boat in rougher conditions.
Or maybe take less rods out with ya,works for me.
Never have been a big fan of storing them up high because of that reason. But I guess that's why they call them "Launchers" Lol

Pinch weld around all metal
Pinch weld around all metal bits to stop them banging around and an occy strap over to top to stop them bouncing around too much usually works for us

Never had an issue
If your rods are coming out of your rocket launcher you've got more serious issues going on...

it isn’t that they failing
it isn’t that they failing out.
it is more of a security measure thing as we don’t want to have anything in place and lose a rod
