Perth outboard wreckers

 G’day everyone,

So to follow up on a post I did a few weeks ago about my broken suzuki outboard, I’ve ordered a brand 70hp 4 stroke Yamaha to replace it. So soon I’ll be stuck with a broken suzuki that I need to get rid of. So just wondering if anyone knows a place or someone in Perth who might be interested in buying it.

Its a 2007 70hp suzuki 4-stroke with 650hrs on it, it kicks over and runs still, but not very well. Mechanic told me it needs the head rebuilt or something, said about $4k to fix.

The guy putting my new Yamaha on said that he would take the old suzuki off and keep it as payment for taking it off, so essentially $500 value, does that seem reasonable?

Cheers Paul

if he is removing and installing new motor and rigging it then its probably a bit more than 500, and saves the head ache of dealing with winners on gumtree, you know - "would you swap for an unregistered Datsun 180b and my star wars collection?" :-)

He is charging me $500 for new install, and taking the old motor as payment for removing said motor. Spoke to my mechanic who serviced my boat and he said that’s a reasonable deal, and like you said I don’t have to worry about anything then.

500 to remove and install is a good price - and as said by Darren, unless you have the time to wreck and deal with joe public it sounds like a fair deal!

Doesn’t sound like a good deal to me...

I would think just from Gumtree you could get $300 for a stainless prop/$100 ally, $500-800 for a gearbox, $150 for gauges & rigging.

thats if you’ve got the time/room to strip and store it.

Yeah  I know that would be the most profitable way to go, but I don’t really have the time, skill or patients to strip it and sell it as parts unfortunately.

Called a couple places and left my details with a few Yamaha dealers and didn’t a call back, so just went into boat city and chatted with them coz it’s close to my house and on my way home from

work, they quoted me $10900 fitted with controlls and guages.

I’m pretty sure they are ripping me for a few hundred dollars tho, coz when I asked for a quote at 1st he told me $12k fitted, then I reminded him that they are actually on sale at the moment and then he re-quoted me $10900 fitted, but that’s only $1100, but the Yamaha sale is for $1400 discount on the 70hp. So gonna make some calls again tomorrow to other dealers and hopefully this time can can give me a quote or at least call me back. Pretty shit when your a genuine buyer looking to spend $10k + and they won’t even call you back. Must be making a killing and don’t need my business!

I’ve be been told 5hrs to remove.

Im gonna call a few people advertising for old outboards on gumtree tomorrow and see what they can do. But I don’t have the resources to remove and store and then load the outboard onto someone’s Ute if I went to sell on gumtree, which makes it hard to sell that way doin fit myself.

I am going to look into tho, I can remove the controlls and gauges myself and just leave the motor for someone else to do which might save a few dollars.

Me and 2 mates picked up and moved a 90hp evinrude 2 stroke by hand. That would be about the same weight as a 70hp 4 stroke (about 120kg). It was heavy as f**k, but still within the realms of possibility without an engine hoist if your dedicated enough :)

Yeah I have to agree, I've removed dozens of outboards and it takes around an hour tops to remove controls, cabling, and gauges. The only catch is needing an engine crane.
