Licence for river fishing

Hello,
Last time I've fished was probably 10 or more years ago and I am in search of a new hobbie so I was thinking of getting into fishing.
However, when I check the fisheries website, I seem require a licence to even do it on theside of the river.
Do I understand that correctly? or is that for some other special river fishing that requires a licence?
If I do require a licence, can I apply one on the website and throw the line in straight away? or do I need to wait for the card to arrive first?
Thanks in advance!

not quite
if you are boat fishing, you will need a RFBL, regardless if you are in the rivers/estuaries/creeks/etc.

That's good to hear
That's good to hear!
We are planning to go down to Blackwood River on the way to Albany over the weekend and I was worried we may have to fork out licences for all 4 of us.. 2 of us which will probably fish just once.
We wont be boat fishing at all. It will be on the river shore somewhere.. or under a bridge.. if they have one!
I hope we get some bites over there! I'll probably be try using squid and soft lure of some sort.

That's gonna depend on which
That's gonna depend on which part of the Blackwood you go then mate. Near the mouth in Augusta you won't need a license but if you're fishing inland on it you will need a license.
Officially off the Pies bandwagon
