Brilliant animal, doing what

Mon, 2016-06-06 09:46

Brilliant animal, doing what it was designed for. An apex predator, awesome.

I was at Mindarie yesterday about to put the boat in the water when the cops barricaded off the ramp as they brought the ladies body off the boat.......must admit it affected me a bit and it is a horrible sight watching those affected. You cant feel anything but huge sympathy for those affected. An awful situation.

BUT.....the water off Mindarie was like pea soup, very dirty, and the whales have just started migrating north, I can believe anyone would dive on those conditions without understanding the risks.....I am not saying people should not be diving, but understand the risks.......

Anyhow, not wanting to start a whole shit fight, as I am conflicted with my feelings, but I still just cant understand how we can be so arrogant to think our species is so important we should go and cull an apex predator in its environment doing what it is designed to do.

I think on a clear day with good clear water conditions outside of the whale migration, the sea is "reasonably" safe, my kids skin dive and my young bloke has just got his dive ticket, so I am as concerned as anyone, but anytime you go in the sea, there is a risk, unless we kill every last one of the sharks......

I kill fish to eat and I am not greenie, but if the call goes out to cull all the great whites, I for one will go and chain myself to a dorsal fin wearing a pinko lezzo teeshirt two sizes too small if it gets to that.....

Again, sympathies to those affected, no disrespect intended. A truly sombre week and makes you realise how precious life is.

its a hard one, kill them or

Mon, 2016-06-06 10:27

its a hard one, kill them or don't kill them! Yes there has been a lot of sightings/attacks! Maybe just unlucky! I don't want to see them killed. But I really want a set of jaws on my shed wall. I'd feel bad after. I can see te fun In roaring around the ocean with a 30/30 and carton of export shooting sea birds wile you wait for the drum line to take off. But I don't think it will fix the problem. Shark shields are like condoms ya put it on and hope it don't break.

I dont int know what to do about them! If you go swimming be prepared to be eaten I suppose!

Have not seen one either. And the amount of blood we let put when we clean the fish before we head home should surely attract it.

same topic as the other thread. Some great post from hezzy and meglodon too.

Amazing , huge

Mon, 2016-06-06 22:56

Gets your pulse going. Best place in front of Carnac ( sound side) start of spring. Prior to water warming up. Little lady( frank )sees them there all the time. Last summer had 3 hanging there 2 small males 3 to 3.5 m. And big female . Which seems to of had pups .the big girl had 4  6 footers swimming in area few days later around her.( I believe he reported what he believed he seen) Makes sense plenty of food in the sound . Could have been ones just happened to show up who knows. Scary thought if they where giving birth there. Study and time will tell. Seen 6 last year in sound alone. D9 and just nth of d9 area. 1 out from Coventry . 2 out wide 35 ks out. Last 2 years fisheries have tagged fair few in sound and around Carnac island alone.  In a few weeks  at one stage they tagged in my books an amazing amount. Didn't let public know??? True false who knows. They do but don't want to alarm public. Scary spring kids swimming lessons.Pontoons situated on deep drop offs . Warnbro cockburn . Mmmm . Seals to them. See how it all pans out next few years. Hope you get to see a few. Keep in mind iam always out on water 4 to 5 times a week. ( diving fishing or squiding ect)Prob why I have been lucky enough to have seen them. Good luck
