Live Bait?

Hey fello Fisherman/woman,

Just wondering what type of fish would attack live baits, such as herring and whitting, during the day from a rock groyne..

and the best way to rig them? (what size hooks, where to hook them etc)

Im not targeting any specific fish.

Cheers

Ish

so will sharks, tailor and even rays if its on the bottom. You've also got a chance with mulloway and bonito. Expect squid too

Herring for mullaway etc...

Mon, 2010-07-19 18:05

Herring for mullaway etc... whitings yum yum for snapper ...a sliding snapper or star sinker on main line just enough weight to hold and get some tension...swivel ...maybe 4 or 5ft heavy leader ....then two snelled 6/0 circle hooks...and don't pin them too deep with the hooks...this is my standard setup...I also have a sliding bait setup as well...pm me with spot when you hook up a snapper lol...good luck

I find sand whiting don't

Mon, 2010-07-19 18:22

I find sand whiting don't last too long so i just present them on the hooks ...with herring i hook them up further up from the tail I find they are more mobile ...thats just my preference...

One thing I have heard is

One thing I have heard is that Whiting go really well under a float. Apparently really light up and try to power their way back down. I know Barra love them that way but might be hard to find them in the Metro area.

Tailor love whiting and herring

Those fresh baits certainly give you a better chance of catching a big greenback.
