local jetty

went for a fish at my local jetty tonight, lots of choppers ranging from just size up to 40cm...Filleted a fat one and sent out a fresh slab, wasnt long before a got a solid run, set the hooks and i was on to what i thought was a mulla-plenty of headshakes and a long solid run.

Everything was goin welll and the fish was starting to slow down to a stop so i put some pressure on then i lost all the weight, wound in thinking the hooks had pulled but my 80lb leader was bit in half..... re rigged with sum wire and 2 8.O gamas and sent a live tailor out but all was quiet so i gave it quits after a bit as the missus was getting tired lol.

On a bad note it was a shame to see a guy down there catching tailor after tailor without checking the size limit..what was worse was when his wife came down and wrapped the 20+ tailor he had in newspaper and left and he continued fishing! catching at least another 12 before he ran out of bait and asked me if i had any spare? i refused and he left- or so i thought... he returned 20mins later with more bait and brought his wife with him and proceded to pillage more tailor!

At this point i was getting fairly angry with this guy and if it wasnt for my missus i would have thrown him in the water, instead I calmly approached him, reminded him of the bag limit etc and told him i was reporting him and his cars rego to fisheries- he shrugged and kept fishing... what a night huh...

sorry about the rave but i cant stand these people.....Frown hope everyone one else had a good night.

Yes, i have reported him..Scotto i would have told him to stop earlier but as i was with my missus and she strongly dislikes any form of conflict i held off from saying anything for as long as i could... the last thing i wanted was to get in an altercation with this guy and i dont think telling him to stop would have done anything in the first place...This guy knew the rules he just didnt care.

Cheers guys... went down

Sun, 2010-02-28 18:47

Cheers guys... went down again last night, managed a couple of port jackson sharks and a medium sized eagle ray... all were released. at around 2am i had my flicky out with a whitebait on it and decided to sit down a and have a smoke, sure enough within minute line was screaming of it, i didnt stand a chance with 4kg line and the fish won its freedom within a matter of minutes....just my luck that something big decides to take a whitebait instead of a live tailr on the heavy gear lol.. will head out tonight and try gain... cheers.

I was at Lanno jetty last

Sun, 2010-02-28 22:50

I was at Lanno jetty last night, and despite the huge numbers of herring that could be legally caught, some people were keeping ridiculously under-size skippy. I told some of these people, but they dont give a shit. Short of vigilante justice, what can you do? I reckon that reporting these things to fisheries never amounts to anything.

Fisheries watch number.

Sun, 2010-02-28 23:14

1800 815 507.

Call, report, write down details (location, time, fish), get a witness name if anyone else there.

And it works. Remember this very well from the cut some time ago. Now Darrin (Fisheries Officer in Mandurah) was just around the corner so none of the above was needed.

Also how quick English return to the vocab when treatened with providing false information. Baltic language barriers my rear end.

End result --- 25 Tailor, 1 size.  i use to get the Fisheries WA Magazine free when I did some Marron log book. Watched it like a hawk but never saw the fine!!

But he was caught.

Ha Ha.

whats the point reporting any1 ilegaly fishing?

Mon, 2010-03-01 09:25

i was down the ammo jetty last night ,and it was packed, alot of people using 6 baitchaser hooks each catching scalies, small skippy etc, when 2 fisheries officers turned up,i questioned 1 of the fisheries officers on the legal allowance of hooks in front of these people.i said to the fisheries officer"what is the legal amount of hooks allowed to catch fish,is it 3 hooks per rig or 1 set of gangs per rig?.",he agreed but still did nothing, didnt even caution these people who had the extra hooks ,and even undersize skippy, they just tyurned a blind eye to what was going on,what a joke these two fisheries officers were.Yell

That is a joke Joe, should have taken the fisheries officers names and reported them to th fisheries...these are the people that we rely on to enforce the rules to provide a sustainable fishery the leats they could do is actually do their job- what a joke indeed...whats it gonna take for these people to realise whats going on before its all to late....

went down again last night,

Mon, 2010-03-01 11:33

went down again last night, everything was pretty quite.....there was a few very smaller tailor around and when i say small i mean like 15 to 20 cm these young fellows down there were keeping them. I was like man WTF are you doin? thats wayyyy undersize, he jusr laughed and said thats why im using them as bait...he seemed to think that if he returned them to the water witha set of gang hooks thru its back ''as live bait'' that it was all okay- what an idiot....

How many people on this site?

Wed, 2010-03-03 11:47

If we truely love our passion then dont become blaze about it!!!!!

People that do the wrong thing is WRONG.

Report and report.

Fisheries has to listen to the comunity. And I hope we care because there will be no fish left if we dont!

The number is:   1800 815 507

And it feels good to look after our collective passion.

I hate people who dont respect the bag and size limits, it really S@#&% me! This one guy was telling me that he caught 200 whiting with a mate of his near mandurah a couple of weeks back. i couldnt believe it, i thought he must be joking, but then he went on and on about how the bag limits are shit... I didnt say anything but i cant belive people are so selfish!

Offered undersize fish as bait

Wed, 2010-03-31 23:41

I was at my local fishing spot earlier tonight and the people fishing not far from me offered me undersize skippy as bait. and by undersize I mean these things where struggling 15cm. I didn't report then because they where released after I refused.

It's good to hear that many of you do the right thing and don't tolerate people doing the wrong thing. Size and bag limits are in place for a very good reason, people need to follow the rules and take only what they need, and the people employed by the department of fisheries to enforce these rules need to do so, that way next time I go fishing there is something for me to catch. I don't fish so I can take home bucket loads of fish, I fish because I enjoy it, and if I can get a nice feed out of it then thats a bonus.
