Logging on

Hey guys, really dumb question, but first time have taken the boat in a road trip. In dunsborough so when I log on do I still use my call sign from Whitfield’s sea rescue? Or just use my fit number? Also station for dunsborough?

thanks heaps guys... sorry bout the newbie question!!

You can use your Whitfords call if you like, no ruling, you can call yourself what ever you like. BoatyMcBoatface

They are on channel from 07:00, you will most likely get Rae, she's easy to deal with.

 I have a Whitfords number

I have a Whitfords number but when I've tried using that logging in to Whitfords, they still ask me for my rego so I don't see the point in using it. If I use the Rego they are happy. It makes for a less convoluted process.

Whitfords number

use your Whitfords sea rescue number , yes we ask for your rego as well but when you have not logged off we check our record data base and we know who you are , your next of kin and what type of boat , trailer rego and what equipment you carry onboard ,  if you only use your boat rego we them assume your not a mamber of the group and we then have to wait for water police to trace down your information which could take hours , same in the country , use your ocean reef number and if they have any over due issues they would ring us for information etc ,  the reason we ask for your rego after your ocean reef call sign is that you may have gone out on a different vessel and trailer rego and prevents any confusion should a rescue start up

OK. Fair enough. I'll log in

OK. Fair enough. I'll log in the same way and just add my OR number to the end of the transmission.

Thanks for the clarification.

Sea Rescue call sign is for the person

Fri, 2018-03-30 17:26

My Freo Sea Rescue call is assigned to me, not the boat.  I can use it on any vessel I’m on to log on.  It carries my personal details, contact info, emergency contact etc.

The rego is used to identify the vessel in case of a search.

If I’m logging on with other sea rescue locations I use my boat name and/or rego.

I use my OR call sign and provide my DoT number during the call in as well.

Rae is a deadset legend down that way and will ask you for anything else she needs.

DoT

Give your DoT number and your boat name, some will ask for a land based phone number just in case.

A reminder to those heading north is that most groups above Geraldton do not religiously monitor 27meg due to its failings so please invest in a VHF for your own safety
