Looking for herring

Hey guys anyone been getting into some herring lately? Need to get some more baits.

i have plenty of burley and such but I'm curious if there is protected spot in this weather that'll produce for me?  Not just herring but gardies and yakkas also, any BB species to be used for bait , I'm not picky haha I'm land based also.

thanks pegz

I find that that this time

I find that that this time of year shore based Hezzas are hard to find with all the weed around. They tend to feed off all the grubs and larvae coming off said weed. One thing I do find though is big Whiting in close that also come in close to feed off the weed offerings. You'd probably have more luck on the offshore reefs for Herring and Skippy this time of year.

 Trigg island you should kill

Trigg island you should kill it too. Fish off the big rock over the reef with a floating burley cage.

Quinns produces

Wed, 2013-09-04 11:25

Quinns produces Herring regularly and pretty reliably if it is not too far away?

I will give up one of my two favourite spots,  the beach out the front of the caravan park all the way to the left where the rock cliff starts (fish just to the right of the reef with a burley blob for distance). Get Tarwhine and whiting here too, but be careful if on the bottom, some annoying snags here. Have pulled some horse herring out of this area.

Cheers,

D80

My favourite spot for herring

Wed, 2013-09-04 19:06

My favourite spot for herring would be the rock walls at Hillary's. North wall is better in rough weather, but I prefer the south wall if its calm. Ive found that once it gets dark , they go absolutely mad on the south wall (calm weather). Recently caught 15 in like 30mins and decided to stop, didn't want to keep anymore. If u do get to fish the south wall, park near aqwa and walk up to the wall, there are stone stairs. The area I fish has concrete thrown over the rocks, so its relatively flat and always produces for me.

Whiting

Wed, 2013-09-04 21:38

I was up at Club Cap last weekend and there were sand whiting in plague proportions - but that was before the big swells came through and I imagine its weeded out now. But as mentioned above Trigg is usually good for small stuff, whenever I hit Trigg for Tailor, I always have a little play for whiting and herring first and rarely fail.
