Lost fishing licence

Can anyone tell me if Fisheries can book you for not having your licence on you?

Ive lost mine somewhere. I read the 2016/2017 rules, and it says you have to produce it when asked by a fisheries officer, but it doesn't say if it's an offence or not.

Has as anyone been or heard of anyone getting stung?

I've given my name a couple

I've given my name a couple of times before when I didn't have license with me and no probs. When you pay online you get a receipt which has all details on it. Can always dig that up off the phone

Yeah didn't have  son's cray  licence on board last summer they just rang water police and did a check. He wasn't too happy about it, I told him it was in the car on beach if he wantred to sight it. Even if you have a photo on your phone they will accept that, that's what he told me.

All my cards are photographed on my phone as well.

Is it time to also include holders photo on them.

Nothing stopping one to use someone elses card if they don't have one.  Especially if you are of about the similar age as described on the card.

Can be done.  Just have to submit a photo with your first applicstion. Then its transferred each application.  Then needs updating each 5 years.

They can probably take you to the Supreme Court as well if you hold it upside down so they cant read it properly ...

 I would have thought not

Mon, 2017-07-17 07:54

I would have thought not complying to any request of a fisheries officer (eg. Producing your licence) could result in a fine.......the outcome would be determined by your attitude, their mood and you previous record. I haven't had a great deal to do with them really, but when I have, I've found them to be very reasonable and polite.

Keeping a photo copy in the boat might get you out of trouble one day, but Im pretty sure the law states you must cary it......If its lost, just order another and use the receipt until it arrives.

Cheers

Ok I've taken time out to do

Mon, 2017-07-17 12:02

Ok I've taken time out to do some research on this as I'm sure it's a common occurence, here it is straight from fishereis:

The onus is on the fisher to produce a valid recreational fishing licence when inspected/requested by a Fisheries Officer. If you are unable to produce a licence when requested the Fisheries Officer is obliged to ask for and record your details. At the time of the inspection, the Fisheries Officers may have the ability to check your licence details, but this will be dependent on things such as phone signal coverage or availability of radio operator at the Water Police communications centre. Issues can arise if a licence check is unable to be performed at the time and the fisher has fish in their possession which they claim to have taken under the authority of a valid licence. In this situation fisheries Officers have the power to seize those fish until proof of licence can be obtained, however this is not always practicable. In most cases the fish may be left with the fisher but your details and other supporting evidence will be collected to support the potential issuing of a $200 Infringement if it turns out that no licence is actually held or expired. To prevent this type of situation we always strongly recommend that you carry your licence as required.

 Precisely Andy, as stated

Fri, 2017-07-21 11:28

Precisely Andy, as stated above if you dont have a license in your posession, but you do infact hold a license they have no power or authority to fine you.
THey will take your details, record what fish you have and then perform a check when they have signal or are back at the office. im not saying to not carry it, however just to clear up if you dont have it on you but do hold a valid boat license, you have nothing to worry about.
The photo on the phone is a good idea as a backup.

Crayfishing season before last

Mon, 2017-07-17 12:53

1 of our 3 on the boat didn't have his licence with him.
The Fisheries bloke told us he could have fined him $60, but didn't. He was more intent of lecturing him on how he was holding up everyone at the ramp whilst he phoned back to check his licence.

Fair call, rules do say you have to carry it, and we all make sure we do now.

so in a nut shell.....they dont have a fine in place for haveing a current licence but not catying it. But......they can make it hard on you and others if you dont.

Sounds like a reasonable request I guess

update

Fri, 2017-07-21 12:33

I actually emailed fisheries, to get the low-down, first hand.

even though they danced around the question in the first email they sent, they finally came clean on the follow up, after I made mention he hadn't answered my question..

there IS an "option" of a $200 dollar fine, if "you are asked to produce a license and do not (without a reasonable excuse". he did go on to mention it would be very rare to actually issue the fine, especially with the increase in technical and mobile telecommunication device systems.

but there you have it. there is a fine for not being able to produce a license when asked.
