Lowrance LSS-2 Structure Scan Query
Submitted by Bucko on Tue, 2016-10-11 10:02
Hey guys, I have a question for the sounder guru's.
At the moment, I am running a FCV-587 1kw as my sounder, and a HDS 7 Gen 3 as a chart plotter (no transducers yet).
I really would like to set up the HDS so I can run structure scan, but the guys who sold it to me said you had to connect the standard tranny as well.
So, my question is, can I just connect the LSS-2 tranny by itself and just run structure scan?
Cheers Lads.

I have the lss-2 connected
I have the lss-2 connected to a hds 7 gen 2 without the normal transducer. It works fine. The gen 3 maybe different though.

Thanks Hooty.Anyone done
Thanks Hooty.
Anyone done this on the Gen 3, though I can't see why they change this.
Also, anyone got the LSS trans on the LHS of their motor? Or should I try and get it on the RHS.
Also, whats the go with sounding at speed, does this work at 15-20 kts or do you have to go slow?

I run a HDS7M gen 2 chart
I run a HDS7M gen 2 chart plotter and structure scan. This model is cheaper because it only runs charts and structure. Won't run standard tranny

You have to go slow, to get
You have to go slow, to get a picture (under 8knots ). Anything over 20-25 metres depth dont even bother. If your fishing creeks probably a good piece of kit, I wouldnt buy one again. Just my opinion. It will work anywhere on the boat, the more central gives a better reflection of whats actually on either side of you.

Waste of time
I have an SS installed on Gen2, but complete waste of time in my opinion.
Maybe in creeks as hooty said, but other than that, forget about it.
