Mackerel Islands

Off to the Mackies shortly and have never been fishing there previously, the plan so far is to do some jgging and trolling and hopefully chuck a few dives in.
Just chasing fellow fishwrecker's experiences up there so I can be prepped and now what to expect.

Have a good trip man. Me and Canning were up there a few years ago. If ya do go for a dive on king diver(i think was the charter boats name) ask to dive at a spot called black flag, a top class dive. we didn do too much fishing away from the island so dunno bout off shore but we hired the tinnies and trolled the shallow corals surrounding thevenard and got some good cods and trout on shallow minnows. also snorkelling ya can go straight off the beach infront of the cabins north of the moorings and get some killer sized crays.

light tackle spinning at Airlie island (golden trevally / queenies) & heavier tackle popping (GT's, big queenies and big spaniards on popper) at Rosily were my highlights...
Penguin Bank for trolling for billfish.
throw a hard body out behind the boat for a troll most places and there's mackies to be caught.
as for bottom bashing there isn't much we didn't catch.
jigging - lost too many jigs / assist hooks early so put them away...
Going back in August for another go.

me and my bro will be there from the
10th to the 21 st where staying in onslow but not on the island . keep an eye out for us we will be in a haines signiture 650 called captain one with a big 200 merc on the back
