Mako Jumped into boat in Geo Bay

A mates brother was fishing on the Wkend in Geo Bay catching a few Skippy, I`m not sure where but he`s usually about 7 mile out when they had a big 8 ish ft Mako free jump past the back of the boat and then its mate jumped straight into the boat... I`m not sure how long exactly, 8ft was mentioned but without a pic ?? Attached is a pic of the beasts head only... The fisheries came past shortly after and asked whether they were catching anything, they replied not really by choice... Apparently the fishpigs were impressed and took some happy snaps before moving on...

bloody hell- a green mako would make a mess of a boat! I suppose they spend the rest of the day salvaging what was left of the inside of the boat?

The bloke had a couple of Black Sth Arficans with him, I don't even know if they had ever been fishing before... The look on their faces when the thing landed in the boat and then Greg having to jump on it and stab its head would have been priceless!!

Bunbury

Was a report in the Bunbury local rag years back of a hooked mako jumping in to the boat, snapping both pedestal seats off and demolishing everything else before jumping back overboard while the two blokes were balancing up on the bow out of harms way.

They would have to be the most threatening appearance of all sharks including the white pointer IMO, very nasty bits of gear.

The blokes in this occasion were very lucky to get off so lightly and get to keep it is a bonus as they are not too bad on the chew.

Thats a true story

Mon, 2013-10-28 13:42

Thats a true story carnarvonite except it didnt jump back out the boat, after it had finished trashing the inside of the boat and settled down the crew climbed back in and belted it with a priest. They then had to call sea rescue to tow them back in.It had eaten the steering wheel and both seats ,the tail had also done a bit of damage to the rear of the boat.I was back then working for Shell and happened to be refueling 1 of the local cray pro boats when it was towed past the refueling jetty. The head was stuck under the dash and the tail was hanging out the stern next to the outboard, was about a 16 or 17 ft boat so the shark must have been about 10 ft, something i wont ever forget and i bet the guys this time wont ever either.

I agree, I've even heard of stories of them coming back to life while hanging from the gantry! how true that is I don't know, but I suppose the lesson is to never underestimate them. From my experience with them, mostly small ones is that they just don't behave like other sharks, just too unpredictable and best to be killed before bringing on board. Bloody nice eating though

Remember years ago reading a story about a mako being caught off the NSW cont. shelf, towed it backwards for many K's and then brought it aboard after it had "drowned" to steam back to port - yep came back to life and did a fair degree of damage to the boat.

Almost happened to me in Dampier

Mon, 2013-10-28 14:43

But was only a spinning whaler. Hooked the bugger and it jumped about 10 ft behind the boat. Then a bit off tig off war for about 2 minutes. Then it erupted and landed on the transom beside the motor. Probably about 5ft and after trying to trash the electric and other connections to the motor I managed to get enough "guts" to push it overboard with the gaf.

Scared the shiite out of me, and the Mrs was perched on the bow. How she got there I have no idea as I was transfixed on the shark. And this was not a bar on a fuggen mad as a hatter Mako, and not 8ft either. That would be something else!!

Scary stuff that's for sure. Not sure if this will work but have a look at this with a marlin on a boat going nuts and the reactions of the people when it all goes to shit.
