Well done. Sounds like you
Well done. Sounds like you were getting them a bit faster than us. We got our 20 on Saturday but it took us about 5 hours. I've never spent that long crabbing before in my life. We got about 1 sized crab per run (10 nets). After about 13, once the wind dropped off a bit we decided to try scooping instead and picked up our last 7 in about an hour. I get the feeling there are not as many crabs there as in previous years. I know it's still a bit early but there just didn't seem to be as many small ones about?

Crabs
Fives enough for a quality feed if your the only one eating them. Well done on the family adventure.

Perth Glory remember that the
Perth Glory remember that the rules state 10per person with a maximum of 20 per boat when there is two or more on board, so Mrs PG may need to go along for the trip.
All this working keeps getting in the way of fishing!

Not bad...
...considering you didn't have to work for them. We got out yesterday with the 10 nets and it took us three hours to get nine. Mainly because I was too cheap to buy more bait! They will really fire up beginning after Chrissy...going through my records from past seasons it's usually pretty slow before then.

Was like clubbing baby seals!!
Thanks Guys,
After reading some posts in the lead up to my trip I thought i may struggle to get some onsize.
Turned out a productive day for the time and effort spent.
Gricko raises an intersting point, this means we need 2 Rec Fish Licencses on the boat for 20?? Could be a good chrissy present for Mrs PG.
Auslobster what bait did you use? I was trying to get lamb necks, local butcher wanted $7.99 per kg. Ended up at the IGA next door for some lamb soup bones (which included some necks) for $1.99kg. Used one pack at cost of $1.81 to return me the 5 crabs. Will be stocking up the freezer with as many packs i can buy at that price. Took the dewalt out and drilled through the bones to attached them in the netts.
FYI, plan to head out on thursday with Groovepants in cockburn sound to catch our christmas dinner.
Starting with crabbing at 5am, then squidding at 8am, Dhufishing at 10am then KGing at 1pm. Hope to follow up with some great photos.
Cheers

Been using mullet...
...3.50 for a pack of 3/4 fish, about a kilo I'm guessing (weight not marked on packet), so not quite as economical as what you're using, PG! And realistically, should be using twice that much since the blowies mow through a fair bit of it, even though it's inside plastic cages. But really, after Christmas, the crabs should be coming that thick and fast that you'll have your 20 before your bait is gone!

I hope you're right about the thick and fast thing Auslobster but I'm not so sure this year?

We'll be right...
...especially with this run of hot weather coming up! I hear what you're saying, though wazz...they closed Cockburn Sound to crabbing for three years due to concerns about the crab stocks there, but no such closure for the Peel. Sure, we've got that annual one for Sept/Oct (I think it's those two months?) but bugger all go crabbing then anyway. If fisheries were dinkum about looking after the crabs in Mandurah, they'd shut it down for a couple of summers but that would never happen because it would be an economic disaster.
Without crabbing, what does Mandurah have? Blowies? Mossies? Traffic lights? And some really expensive bars and coffee shops.

You are forgetting they now
You are forgetting they now have the New Freeway, which runs right past the joint and cuts my driving time to Perth down by 1/2 hour.
Thank you Mandurah, I salute you

Tried crabbing in Cockburn on
Tried crabbing in Cockburn on Sunday using lamb necks and chicken necks on bait clips. Only used 5 nest and chicken necks were cleaned up in about 10 minutes, lamb necks a little longer, but didn't manage to get any crabs. Is it worth while to put the biat in to wire mesh baskets. Will the crabs still go for that and maybe the bait will be a bit protected from the blowies.
I last crabbed in cockburn about 10 years ago and we never had problems getting our bait cleaned up then, always still had some meat left after hours of crabbing
