Mangrove sanctuary zone boundarys Exmouth.

Hi Everyone.  In the last couple of years ive found countless boats fishing in mangrove sanctuary zone. A common comeback is that my gps tells me im not in it, and the occasional idiot who gets agro and wants to punch on when told they cant fish there.   I dont know which ones but I know lowrance sounders/gps seem to be on most of these boats so I dont know what maps they run. They must have the old bounderies on there map which changed in 2007  .  So If your up this way grab a brouchure and make sure your not in it if your fishing around that area.

I would also add the same

I would also add the same issues abound the sanctuaries along the Ningaloo Reef. With modern navigation tools available to us all - there is no excuse.

I do most of my inshore lure

Thu, 2016-03-03 18:20

I do most of my inshore lure fishing around coral bay these days and must say during the summer months sanctuary zones to many people dont seem to exist, especially cloates ive given up even questioning people in cloates. Pretty sad really as sanctuarys do work in my opinion. There are ample fish out of the zones around coral bay and there is no need  to fish in sanctuaries.

Only one way to do it.

always drop into shop/visited center for the latest map. Settle into house, grab a few beers and put in or check last coordinates. Pain in the ass.

we got warned about 5km north of Tandibitdy that we "nearly trolled in a zone" where only the loonies are allowed. It was a new one from previous year. Lack of information very frustrating, so just do the check with new booklet before any fishing.

No sanctuaries shown on Navico maps

Thu, 2016-03-03 08:32

I have a HDI-7 Elite with the Navico maps, (less than 12 months old)and there are NO Ningaloo sanctuaries zones shown on it. I drew in my own, using the route function, very simple really. I've been parked very close to the line and had both Fisheries and Marine Parks turn up, ask me if i knew where the line was, and said, yes, about 30 metres east. They looked hard, and agreed.Happened a couple of times, no problems.
