Marine Parks

We were in Augusta for the long weekend and on sunday morning went to the new marina for a look around at the blessing of the fleet and community markets. While there under a WA Tourism gazebo Save our Marine Life were there with a stand with info about the marine parks. I went over for a look and the lady that there asked if I knew about the marine parks plan, to which I replied 'yes, but im honestly not really in support'. She asked why so I said I thought the science and the communication of the parks weren't great which lead to a robust debate about the rottnest trench and other areas. Lets just say we agreed to disagree, then she told me that there is currently a review of the decision with consultation of stakeholders to try to have the decision not to implement the parks overturned?

Is anyone else aware that this is happening?

Marine parks review

There is an article on marine parks in the latest issue of Western Angler magazine, it seems that the PEW group are pushing the same crap about how good the marine parks are doing without giving any science to back their claims.
These are dangerous times in my opinion I hope RECFISHWEST are keeping a close watch on the developments.

The same magazine (at the back) also has a great article on what a farce the pro fishermen down here at Mandurah are operating under. No limits on catches, no accounting (that's available for public viewing)on just how much they are raping and pillaging the estuary. But god help the rec fisher if he catches one more crab or herring than the regs permit. We have to preserve the bio mass you know, I agree we do but how do you know that the fishery (bio mass) is in ok shape if there is no limit on what the pros can catch Hmmm. I think there is an elephant in the room that can be seen by all but must not be talked about.
