Marron snaring, first try.

Hi Guys.

After years of marroning the easy way(drop nets)I thought I would go to Harvey and try snaring.

Got there with the family, set the baits and waited till dark.

First check of the baits and we spooked a big one.Second run spooked two more.

In the end we saw several but as soon as the light got close enough to see them they were off.

There were a fair few footprints on the bank so maybe they are a bit flighty,or maybe my skills just need fine tuning.

Anyway it was a nice night by the dam with the missus and kids.

good fun

It was always good fun as I remember as a lad many years ago.

Trying to snare them from a slippery log was always a challenge. Remember going into the water a few times doing that...lololol

But , the rewards were always worth it.

We found using a very powerful, narrow beamed torch the best as it didnt spook them too much.

Used to get 2 or 3 from each bait before the rest cottoned on to what was happening to their mates.

once you have the knack for

once you have the knack for it's like taking candy off a baby, far more productive than netting. I found that the larger ones seem to hang back when there is already another large marron on the bait once you get that one the next one moves in, I can't work out why it's encouraged
