It's funny, where I'm from in the states, Red Fin(we call them Yellow Perch) are a popular food fish and a great by catch while fishing for Walleye and Smallmouth Bass.
They chew anything and everything from small spinners, SPs, live minnows, and big nightcrawlers!
But they fit in well in lake ecosystems, so they aren't a threat to other species like they are here.
Used to fish for redfin in victoria in my youth ( yes im a mexican ) , they are great just egg and floured , they love those red spinner's or tassie devils , minnows and worms . Can remember using this red sinker with two hooks hanging off the front called a baltic bobber and going out in the tinny and jagging them
Have had my FULL licence for 10 years !!! Used to catch crays but have not used any other part of the licence except the 4 times I have been to Lake Navarino !! I pay it because it's the only money I give to the govenment that actually goes to doing something towards FISHING !!!!!!!
Also if I get invited to do something wether it be marroning, freshwater or abbs I don't have to worry about anything!!!!!!!
To some people trout are a feral pest that is known to affectively predate native species into extinction & are looked at in the same degree as redfin.
Oh yeah! reddies taste heaps better than the "spotted carp".....LOL
Al.
ps, great few feeds of fish there Rod, well done mate.
The Galaxias of NZ and eastern states have copped a hammering from trout, as well as the macca perch and blue nose cod in VIC & NSW that have been displaced and almost extinct now due to the trout species.
Luckily those in the know are starting to realise the effects trout have had on many native species, and now are starting to do something about it.
Oh yeah! reddies taste heaps better than the "spotted carp".....LOL
Al.
Definatly Al i can remember swapping them for other fish after the weigh ins when i ysed to fish competition,s as a youngster , tried baking them and wont eat them
Now youre talking! I knew that moving 3500kms must be for something although I was hoping for bream in there! What about the estuary?
On Google Earth I see there are no roads down the north bank of the Capel to the beach so is it unreachable?
I dont have a 4wd, yet!!

Agree totally !!! Don't like trout at all !!! But will chow down on reddies anyday !!
Remember watching a doco on the trout sending a fish in NZ to extinction (GARLING) or something like that !!!!
