merc saltwater series

Hi guys,

Has anyone had got any experiences on the mercury saltwater series, 2 strokes.

I have seen alot of boats with them on and was wondering if they are reliable and are they good on fuel. trying to compare them to four strokes. seen a 115 in a 5.8m ali but wondering if it is not enough hp with 4 blokes on the boat.

planning on doing alot of trolling.

cheers

early on which gave them a bad name (black anchor) but they seem to have fixed the problem on the 2006 onwards

pretty good fuel econmy for a 2 stroke my brothers 200 salwater uses about 1.1 liter / k pushing a 6.5 haines signiture along at 40 knots

 Hi AaronI have a Mercury

Hi Aaron

I have a Mercury Saltwater 90hp 2 Stroke.  It's a 2004.

The engine was compresion checked when I bought it a couple of years ago, and the mechanic said it was as good as new.  He was very impressed with the power.

Since that time, I've had no problems with the engine.

She runs a little rough on idle being a 2 stroke and trolling with a 4 stroke would be smoother.  But for power and speed of pick up I can't complain - and being a lighter engine (with alot less to go wrong than a 4 stroke) my boat sits on the plane effortlessly - even heavily loaded.

Good luck

 I have a merc 115 smoker.

I have a merc 115 smoker.  Goes great. I'll travel from Hillary's down to hale rd reef. Troll for a couple of hours and only have used around 15-20L that's in a quicksilver 520 cuddy (savage Tasman 520).

However, given the choice I'd definitely go for a 4 stroke next time.  Quieter, less smelly, more efficient, and today's 4s have great hole shot.

I've just put a 2007 150efi

Wed, 2011-11-02 08:17

I've just put a 2007 150efi on my 6m f/g centre console.I'm using over 2litres p/nm.

I know, its extrme.My 98 130 carbed Johnno was only using 1.5/per n/m.

I cant seem to get any answers from the local dealer. From reviews I shouldnt be using anywhere near this much.

It runs fine but drinks like a fish.

Any ideas eppreciated.

Something definately wrong there. We had a pair of those on a 8m rescue boat. Didn't use Anything like that between the pair.
I would be taking it back to where you got it and asking the question.
