Metro mackies 'cross' Metro dollies and wahoo 'tick'!
Well me and a mate who doesnt get out fishing very often (his second time out on a boat to be exact) headed out this morning chasing some metro mackies which have alluded me for a long time, and still continue to do so! We started out at first light trolling just behind the 3 mile, plenty of bait schools up on the surface and down deeper but couldn't see anything attacking the bait tho and didnt have any luck there. With the weather looking great we decided to head out deeper for a troll to try get my mate onto a tuna that he always bugs me about wanting to catch! So out to the 100m mark and deploy the skirts. No action on any of them for an hour or so as well trolled out way to the PGFC fad. But that tured out to be a great idea, switched to some small skirts and done a pass first about 50m's away and from the fad and was on straight away! Nice little dolly for my mate. Couple photos and into the esky, skirts back out and second pass and my mates on again, another nice dolly for him! So going for our 3rd pass and my mate told me its my time to catch one so I was on first strike, sure enough the rod went off so I jumped up and grabbed it but didnt have much weight to it, winding it in to see its a tiny tuna about 20cm's long, but noticed a few dollies hot on its tailed, one dolly grabbed the tuna but the spat it out while another swooped across and grabbed lure skirt my mate was winding in and he was on again, this time to a bigger model! So now it was 3 dollies to him and he was over the moon! Great to see a green horn so excited! So back to trolling, go for our 4th pass and have a big hit but dropped it, bugger. Things went a little quiet then, must have spooked them after hooking and dropping a fish. So we troll away from the fad a few hundred meters to give them a little break, do a few wide passes and then come in close again and after a few passes start to head away when we get a hook up. I grab the rod and start fighting the fish, at first it's pretty mellow and is an easy fight to the boat until it gets about 5m's away and see's the boat and takes off like a rocket, fastest I've heard a reel scream! After a 5 minute battle we get sight of my first ever wahoo, so some careful boat manoeuvring and a good gaff shot and it's ours! So stoked! So no mackies in the end but who can complain with a day like that!

Shit hot, was certainly a hard time being at work today.

Cheers guys. Apart from some metro marlin a few weeks back this has been my best trip for a while!
Boat is a Quintrex 480 coast runner, not an ideal boat for the fads but with great conditions, no swell and plenty of fuel it's certainly do able. But you must be prepared for the weather getting rough and for a long slow trip back in!

Awesome mate. Smashed it, so jealous.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
